Glad to hear it. I hope the event has a good, solid turnout and the speakers strike the right tone.
Bennies wrote:Wow ok I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. I talked to the organizer today about the quote in question. He absolutely agrees that the wording was very poor and his intent was not to bash LEOs. Again he is a former sheriffs deputy so he is not anti LEO. In fact he lined up Sheriff Mack as a speaker. He told me he wanted to delete that portion of the web page and re-write. I don't know when as he was headed to work when I talked with him.

I hope we can stay united as gun owners and not fight eachother.

I have been to the capitol many times but not for something like this. What should I expect the options for parking to be?

I don't see anything being blown out of proportion at all. It doesn't appear that people are really going to stay away because Piratesailor's post. I do hope that his mother is there to keep him quiet, if his last (very last) post is any indication of his ability to control his temper.

He first posted about the rally on Jan 9th around 8:30pm. About 14 hours later he posted his disappointment that he hadn't seen a rush to join him in Austin. On the 14th, he posted a link to a Facebook account that contained the ill-advised insult to LEOs and A-R understandably thought it was his Facebook account. Less than an hour later, Piratesailor blasts A-R and in so doing clearly revealed the tremendous esteem with which he views himself when he looks in the mirror, while also making it clear that he believed A-R to be lying with the phrase "And no disrespect intended.. I'll call bull on you." When I warned him about his diatribe against another Member, he went nuts, again displaying a degree of narcissism rarely seen.

None of this has anything to do with the rally, so don't let this guy's childish antics keep you from going to Austin if you otherwise want to go.

Edited to add: below I'm responding to overall happenings in the thread since my last post (not to Chas' most recent post - which hit as I was typing mine) - carry on ...

:eek6

um, ok .... well, anyone want to go to the range at noon Saturday? :fire

Someone answering the FB page's message did respond to me today and asked what I thought should be done to "fix" that section ... I basically told him, highlight that sentence and hit DELETE. No way to "rewrite" that portion to be acceptable. Just remove it from the "platform" or "mission" statement or whatever that was supposed to be.

But that's just my $0.02. So far nothing has changed; the sentence is still on the FB page. That's the organizer's right, and I respect his right to leave it there even if I disagree with his decision to do so. I personally don't want to associate with any group that even hints at LEO bashing, nor with any group that might invite folks who would belittle LEOs. I'm all for calling out individual LEOs when they act poorly; but blanket statements are unhelpful (to put it mildly).

I'll likely just make this a game-time decision ... I was missing my son's soccer game to attend this anyway, so maybe I'll just go to his game instead.

Apologies to everyone, especially the event organizer, for creating tension, but I felt someone needed to answer for that particular line. And I still do.

As for pirate-whoever, I guess he made his own bed and can now lie in it.

I'm always amazed at the folks who will just throw a hissy at Chas or the mods. I don't agree with everything Chas thinks or posts. But this IS his site. His response was curt, but sometimes that's necessary to get someone's attention who isn't following the rules. Chas is a good guy (I've met him in person once) and a staunch defender of CHL, 2A, RKBA, AND LEOs. He wants this site to be respectful and respectable. A worthy goal, and one which he and his mods have achieved. I have a lot of respect for Chas, the mods, and this site for what they've built here. But I guess it's not for everyone.

Anyway, I'll of course let y'all know if I hear back anything else from the FB page organizer. And Bennies, thank you for passing along what you know.

I'm going. What is the secrete TexasCHLForum handshake again? I will also have my camera there, so y'all look your best.

I doubt I'd make a sign, but I did have an idea:

Mikael Gross & Tracy Bridges - Appalachian School of Law
Joel Myrick - Pearl High School
James Strand - Edinboro, PA School Graduation Dance
Kenneth Hammond - Trolley Square Shopping Mall
Citizens of Austin, TX - The Tower at the University of Texas
Mark Wilson - Tyler, TX Courthouse
Jeanne Assam - New Life Church

All stopped mass shootings using a firearm!

Feel free to add to the list.

I was originally going for ones without police involvement since no one is suggesting taking guns away from the police, but on second though those work just as well.

That's rich, I'd be interested in seeing Spielberg's reaction to that. :clapping:
