Holster recommendation for Kimber Ultra Carry

I recently purchased a Kimber Ultra Carry with the CT lasergrips on it. I'm looking for some good holster recommendations for it with one of the things being very important is maintaining the safety. By that I mean I will carry the weapon in condition 1 and I want to make sure while the gun is in the holster, I want the safety to be on. Looking for recommendations on both OWB & IWB.

I plan on getting an AKJ concealco for my Kimber ultra carry, I have desantis IWB and my AKJ conceals a bigger gun better (steyr M40A1). It sits lower.

I have a Comp-Tac C-Tac that seems to work well. and a Tuckers Answer that I like as well. These are both IWB.

I'm new to CC and I have a question. Do you guys feel 100% safe carrying condition 1? I know that's the only logical way to carry a 1911 and I told myself I'd be comfortable doing it, but now I'm beginning to get butterflies knowing that I have a loaded and cocked weapon with a 4-5# trigger on my hip all the time. I've gotten used to carrying my XD and am very comfortable with it. Does it get better with time?

I guess I'm just trying to reassure myself that I didn't make a almost $1k purchase of a gun that I'm not going to be comfortable carrying.

Avoid any holster with a thumb break.

While it appears to offer the added safety of the strap preventing the hammer fall, I have seen thumb breaks that would disengage the slide safety during normal wear.

Hey Mike--

I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry as well, though not with the grips. I'm not sure if the grips would play into the holster, but I've been carrying in a Gary Brommeland MaxCon V. It is absolutely comfortable, with an added bit of leather that covers the safety up great. I've NEVER had it come off while I'm wearing it, and I wear it constantly, from when I wake up to when I head to bed.

Did I mention it was comfortable?

I'm sure that your butterflies will disappear, and that many others will chime in telling you just how safe the 1911 design is. Nice pistol!

I have a couple of cheap holsters that work really well. One is an Uncle Mike's belt slide holster. The second is a Fobus paddle holster. I have a Galco with a thumb break and everytime I put the thumb break on, the safety goes off. Needless to say I don't use that one.

I just started carrying the Kimber as well and initially was nervous about carrying in condition 1. However then I started thinking that I used to carry a Ruger P 95 with the safety off because of the DA nature of the first pull or a Kel Tec P11 or Rossi 720 which didn't have safeties, just long DA pulls, and I came to the conclusion that I was probably safer with the Kimbe Ultra in condition 1 than I was with any of the other of my guns.

I like that holster pictured above but hows that trigger impression on the holder working? It looks like if theres too much of an indention it could push the trigger.

if the trigger guard can go through it, it probably isn't touching the trigger.
if it flexes against the trigger guard, and then goes in side the trigger guard, I would imagine that it would hit the trigger, and you would know very quickly. I think it's an optical illusion in the photo, as my Galco holster has a very similarly designed trigger guard.

anyway, I don't know what Condition 1 is (I'm not tacticool), but I know that I carry my double action revolver (no safety), my S&W Sigma (trigger safety) and my B92 (safety off, DA trigger) and I don't feel the least bit nervous about ANY of them.
why? because the holster covers the trigger, and my finger (or anything else) doesn't touch the trigger.

you have a 1911, it has a grip safety, right? In all frankness, it doesn't matter how light the trigger pull is, as long as the grip safety is not engaged, and the trigger is not fooled with.

this is where a good holster is yer buddy.

Your XD and the 1911 are a lot alike. They both have a grip safety and on one you see a hammer back, one you don't. Trigger pull does not matter with that grip safety there.

I am absolutely comfortable carrying a 1911 "cocked and locked." I won't carry one any other way.

I can't say whether it will "get better with time," as I've never felt uncomfortable with having a "condition 1" gun on my hip.

I have the ultra raptor which is the same size and i carry it in a Rafter S OWB holster which is pictured in pics of your daily carry.

That's a nice looking setup there and I know Gary makes a fine product. I will definitely have to look into them. I don't think the grips will be a factor from the pics you have there.

I feel the same way...I just purchased a Kimber Ultra CDP II and was wondering if there was a way to safely drop the hammer with a round chambered. I believe the S&W Chief's special has this feature, so I was curious to know if the Kimber did the same. I am also looking to carry IWB.

I am 100% confident in my 1911s condtion 1. Some one once suggested carrying it unloaded at home in condition 1 for a while until you feel comfortable with it.
