The Academy in Webster is out of 9mm FMJ $12.95/50rds. :evil2:

Sorry about that folks.

Just heard that they're boxing up all ARs on the shelves. Not sure if they'll still sell the, but they're not out for the public to see. Sounds like they're following the lead of Dick's, who earlier today took ARs and other semi-auto rifles off their shelves. Wal-Mart has supposedly pulled Bushmasters off the shelf, but left Colt and Sig ARs up. Hmmm...

At around noon today the Academy in Longview was carting all their black guns (centerfire only) into the back. AR's SIGs Remy's, etc. I asked if they were still selling them, they said they would, but they were taking them off the shelves. People were standing 4 deep waiting to buy pistols though. 9mm and 223 ammo was flying off the shelf.

I went to the local Academy this evening. Not a single AR on the rack. Almost all of the .223 ammo was gone. Folks were milling around; staring at the empty ammo shelves and jamming up the aisles. It was enough to make me want to scream "All of you amateurs get out of the way and let a professional panic buyer buy some stuff!" :biggrinjester:

Dang, maybe I am getting paranoid?
At this point if feels like Charles should have a thermite grenade strapped to the top of the server.

PS: have you seen the line to buy thermite? its ridiculous

What's going to happen to that "sons of guns" guy who's always bragging about their AR contract with Academy? I bet that's a hit in the wallet.

I emailed Academy yesterday from their Contact Us webpage with the following
have heard just a few hours ago, that Academy has pulled all "AR" Style rifles from their shelves, and from being in my local store tonight, I heard one of the hunting associates tell another that if someone called for one, the caller had to specify the make of the rifle they were looking for, by manufacturer name. I am severely disappointed in Academy for falling to the pressure of the actions of Newtown, CT last week, Yes, one of the weapons on hand was an "assault weapon" - as they are called at times, but it was used by a CRAZY Person. The GUN was not the bad actor in this, or any other gun related murder. I have bought several handguns at my local Academy, as well a many boxes of ammunition, and have spent several thousand dollars on other items (clothing, shoes, treadmill, etc, etc, etc.) Academy has been my go-to store for lots of items, however, I will be hard pressed to keep Academy as my first stop for any of those, or any other items, in the future, if you are going to cave, which is basically saying "Academy agrees that the "assualt weapons" are bad and should not be on the shelves any longer. By the way, Wal-Mart has done the same thing, and yes, I will be avoiding them as well!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Academy Sports + Outdoors. We are currently selling MSR's, but out of respect for the families and the tragic situation, we have

chosen not to broadly advertise these items.

Our selection varies by store and your best source for current inventory availability is your local store. We look forward to assisting you and value you as

a customer.

Nice PC response, but having them on-the-shelf when someone wants to come and look at guns, is not going to “Broadly advertise them”
As in all of your stores, you have to walk to the hunting department to see guns, period.
Just walking in the front door, you will not see them.

I stand behind my prior comment, Academy will NOT be the first stop for me, any longer.

Oh, and I like how you didn’t answer my comment about if someone calls, the caller has to ask for a specific make of weapon, before they would be told yes they have one. Rather than if I called and asked if they had an AR Style rifle (generically) they would say no.

well decided to go by walmart down the road since needed to pick up a few household items went by ammo display -- not much there at all but was 2 40rd boxes of 223 HP so was like what the heck i will get them since im here -- finally get someone over there to open the case and he gets them and starts walking off with them -- i said hey i wanted those he said follow me to register -- lol -- i was like what the hell i can carry a concealed loaded weapon in here but yet cant carry ammo i want to buy? he said nope -- told him i had few other things i had to pick up before checking out -- said he would take them to register 16 for me -- once ready to check out went to 16 and they werent there -- what a load -- now i remember why i hate walmart so much

Not new to me. Our Wal-Mart always does that. It is theft protection policy. You want the ammo - you pay when they give it to you. I generally do all my shopping and show up at the ammo counter to check up. The alternative is two transactions - one for the ammo and the 2nd for everything else. NBD.

That is new to me. I have almost always just paid in the sporting goods area and then hauled it all over the store doing the other shopping. I've been allowed to take it to the front a couple of times before paying for it when there was some problem with another customer and it was going to be a while at the sporting goods register.
