Academy today!!
Well, I started at the Real Gun Show in belton....great crowd, few guns for sale, only 3 Glocks, and dad was looking for one today....no Glock 19!! Anyways, went to academy as I needed to just check some stuff out! Not only did it appear A LOT of ammo had been purchased, but there had to be 10 people looking over what they had. Even better, I counted 12 people at the counter looking to purchase a new firearm!!

Not surprised. Everyone is getting them while they can and Christmas is in 10 days.

Re: Academy today!!
I bought some ammo at a Wal Mart in North Richland Hills three days ago. He was stocking the shelf with a lot of 9mm ammo.
I was in that area today so I stopped in to buy some more. Boy the shelves were empty. I did pick up the last three hundred rounds of 9mm.

Re: Academy today!!
I bet there is a correlation between gun/ammo purchases and major, national-news gun crimes like yesterday's shooting. After incidents like yesterday, of course all the loud mouths are going to scream "Ban the guns!" This concerns people and they stock up just in case.
After the Batman movie shooting, I bought some high capacity magazines just in case people wanted to push a ban on them. Yesterday, since I had some more money, I bought some more.

The non-windowed packs are/were $99 but are show as out of stock.
Plus sales tax and shipping. ($5.35 shipping for a recent 10-pack)
I've had nothing but good service from these folks.
After reading all of the above I bought some more AR Mags today.

Probably has to do with what happened, but I've been seeing this up here in Allen, McKinney and Plano for several months now.

Re: Academy today!!
Probably has a lot to do with the sky falling. I bought my first ARs during the Clinton AWB without any difficulty. I bought a lot of "pre- ban" 30 round magazines and plenty of 5.56 ammo during the ban as well. I am fairly well stocked on ammo, mags, and have lots of spare parts. Times like these are when you need to already have a stockpile, not the time when you need to try and acquire one.

Higher-than-usual capacity for Texas, not "high capacity" for KaliforniaAndyC wrote:Normal capacity, or actual "higher-than-usual" capacity?Thomas wrote:After the Batman movie shooting, I bought some high capacity magazines just in case people wanted to push a ban on them. 32 round pistol mags.
At least this way, I can load them up while I'm at home, so I don't have to waste time while I'm paying the range to use one of their lanes.
I also bought some normal-capacity rifle magazines (30 round .223/5.56 AR-15 style).
I don't feel like biting the bullet on a drum magazine yet. I'll have to do my research on those first. There's probably a reason why the military doesn't use them (that I know of). It seems like they would only be good in a "mow down" situation. I don't have any dead cars that need to be scrapped, and it would waste bullets in a zombie scenario.

Just imagine the online business activities for orders with both Christmas and the fear of another AWB.

Re: Academy today!!
Why the military doesn't use them I don't know for sure. I have read that the drum magazines are not as reliable - maybe they don't meet mil specs. They are probably uncomfortable and heavy to carry. It could also have something to do with logistics - I would think a drum magazine would be less efficient to package/crate/store and ship than flat magazines. Probably one of the active or ex-military guys on the forum will have a better answer.Thomas wrote:I don't feel like biting the bullet on a drum magazine yet.
