Portland Mall shooting
Two people have been killed by a gunman at a mall near Portland, Oregon. Police have blocked off entrances to the mall and are searching the area.
One witness at the Clackamas Town Center said at least two people were shot, and he saw sheets put over them. That witness said the gunman had a rifle and was wearing a camouflage outfit and a mask. Others are saying it was an AR15 with at least 60 shots fired and that it jammed with a full magazine.
Let's see how long it takes for the liberal media to immediately call for that Assault Weapons ban?

Re: Portland Mall shooting
I said the same thing to my wife at dinner. If an AR was used I'm sure someone will call for a ban soon. I'm glad I've bought the 2 AR's that I wanted already. Things like this are going to make it tough for us law abiding citizens.

Always hurts our cause when some nut job does this stuff...

Sure are a lot of ambulances out there!
I believe Portland is one of the localities in Oregon that restricts carry in public places, but I am not sure if that means Concealed as well. (Edit: it does not. Copied this from their CHL Forum: There are no local restrictions on licensed concealed carry.) I wonder if there were any concealed carries in the mall??

This is eerily similar to the 2007 Westroads Mall shooting... young clinically crazy kids.

Re: Portland Mall shooting
All is not lost (yet). I heard a replay of the police/sherrif press conference on the radio & the spokesperson used the phrase "AR-15 semi-automatic rifle" instead of "assault rifle". It's a small step, but it IS in the right direction.

The Mall is a "Gun Free Zone"... I believe "gun-free zones" should be renamed VICTIM zones.Gameover wrote:Why is it that noone is ever carrying when things like this happen?
This shooter CHOSE a “Gun Free Zone”. The shooter did not go to a police station where everyone is armed and trained. The shooter did not go to an area of the general public where some citizens would be armed. No, in almost all mass shooting cases, the shooter went to an area where law abiding citizens, having bought the assertions of politicians, statists, feel good liberal theorists, and the ignorant – where those citizens trusted that the “Gun Free Zone” was safe.
Proof, reality, actual cases and lots of dead due to others ignorance – can we finally stop with the “Gun Free Zones”?

Re: Portland Mall shooting
One of the news articles credited the low casualty count to the overwhelming police response, even though it appears the suspect took his own life before police arrived on scene. It seems to follow the pattern: these guys are done when they feel they have inflicted enough suffering and choose to stop shooting or off themselves before police intervene. Thoughts?

Re: Portland Mall shooting
I agree with that but I'll also toss out that a lot of it is about control. The shooters want to control everything including their death/capture and that is why you'll see these idiots shooting themselves before police arrive because they can't necessarily control the arrest or subsequent shooting. Apparently police were on scene within a minute thirty after the first 911 call and SWAT was on scene a short time later. Who knows how much ammo this kid had so that could have also factored into his decision to end it. I'm glad he saved the tax payers from a trial though.Lonest4r wrote:One of the news articles credited the low casualty count to the overwhelming police response, even though it appears the suspect took his own life before police arrived on scene. Re: Portland Mall shooting
A couple of the first reports (which in reality could be just the same report regurgitated by several outlets) said that the rifle jammed & then the shooter took his life.

Re: Portland Mall shooting
When I was staying in New Hampshire the gun laws were easy and shootings were rare (easier in New Hampshire to get a permit to carry equal... to a Texas SA License)
Several shootings a week were the norm down South In Boston Mass (The commonwealth of Mass is Gun Free By Law)
The Gun free sign at the mall in Oregon are an open invite to go on a shooting spree
Gun Laws and Gun Free Zones only protect the Robbers and Hat cases and leave the rest of us vulnerable to them

Re: Portland Mall shooting
I have been wondering how he shot himself if his gun jammed.
