This is still probably the best guide to overall nutrition.carlson1 wrote:I like the old food pyramid they used back in the 70's.

Food pyramid? You shouldn't stack your plate that high if you want to lose weight.

I tried to make a list of foods that I like that are now verboten to me. This is what I was able to write down in a couple of minutes. you may notice that many of these are really classes of foods that rule out lots of unmentioned things.
added sugars
cereal
milk
cheese
bread
tortillas
pizza
rice
corn
soy
beans
green beans
peanuts
most gravies and a lot of sauces
potatoes

IMO, pizza is not food.3dfxMM wrote:I tried to make a list of foods that I like that are now verboten to me. This is what I was able to write down in a couple of minutes. you may notice that many of these are really classes of foods that rule out lots of unmentioned things.

It's the perfect food if you do it right. It has grains, vegetables, dairy, and meat.WildBill wrote:IMO, pizza is not food.3dfxMM wrote:I tried to make a list of foods that I like that are now verboten to me. Definitely not the pizza I had for dinner on Friday night.hillfighter wrote:It's the perfect food if you do it right. I have lost over 80lbs since March. That seems like a lot, but not really considering I started at 503 . I have a long way to go. This is what I have been doing since March with very little movement. . .

Re: 2012 weight loss group
I am now a little over 5.5 weeks into this thing and I am sold on it. I have lost 33 lbs. My wife even commented the other day that she saw a muscle in my leg. :) I have moved 4 notches on my Comp-tac belt and clothes that were snug on me are now a little bit baggy. In case you are worried about me being deprived, here is my usual meal routine.
Breakfast: Two to four eggs, usually scrambled with some jalapenos thrown in, but I sometimes use different spices or onions.
Lunch: Leftover meat from dinner or boiled eggs with vegetables left over from the night before and/or carrots/lettuce/celery and a piece of fruit.
Dinner: Last night was a 14 oz. New York strip with steamed broccoli, roasted mushrooms, and a salad.

Re: 2012 weight loss group
Well, going to miss my goal. Down 37 pounds. Not discouraged though as I am looking at it more like a lifestyle chamge rather than a diet. Plus I've added some muscle that offsets some of the fat weight I lost. Down four inches in my pants and two shirts sizes without my hi power.

Re: 2012 weight loss group
I'm going to miss my goal by, well, a lot. Hopefully I'll get this self-discipline thing figured out soon and can get on with the weight loss.
Grats, Carlson, seriously. Do you know about how many calories of fruit you're eating a day? I don't know that I could completely switch to your diet, but I do love me some fruit. 3dfxMM's doesn't sound too bad either, but I'd probably end up mixing them which would likely defeat to purpose (unless they're both really based on calorie management).

Re: 2012 weight loss group
Are we going to have one of these threads for 2013? I just now noticed it
I'm trying to go back to my "fit" weight of 155-160. Right now I'm hovering around 190, having dropped 20lbs since I deployed a year ago (contractor, not military). I've been working out, but I'd rather lose weight right now rather than stay at 190... I felt much, MUCH better at 160. I'll never be one of those musclebound types, I prefer skinny.
It feels like I've lost more since my company issued me 38 waist pants... they were loose even before I started losing weight
My biggest problem is soft drinks. I'm still searching for drink mixes that I actually like since drinking some of the plain water here is kind of icky (bottled, but weird flavors). I tend to trust Coke and Dr Pepper a little more.

Re: 2012 weight loss group
After dialysis started on Jan 13 2012, and till date, I gain some 8-9Kg or up to 20 lbs
The good side, not all of it is fat. 50/50 I would say.
