Gotta find some way to keep buying those votes! I bet that Illinois county is not the last to try something like this.
This sorta thing could make prices go up for all of us, because most will buy their ammo in another county or state, which causes even more shortages.

Every member of the Cook County board is guaranteed a good salary, re-election unless they get convicted of a felony, health insurance, an upholstered chair for their generously upholstered backsides, and a nice pension.
They are stupid, how, exactly?
Nearly all the criminals in Chicago are teenagers, previously convicted felons, and/or gangsters who could not legally own a firearm or buy ammunition. Obviously this proposed tax would do nothing about violence. If they can figure that out, they don't care.

Let's see, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; isn't that where the current POTUS chose to be from?

Felons and politics go hand in hand in Illinois... I've lost track of how many Illinois politicos are either in prison, out on parole, or recovering from drugs.seamusTX wrote:Every member of the Cook County board is guaranteed a good salary, re-election unless they get convicted of a felony...snip..

So long as they slip a "ignorance tax" in that bill somewhere, I'm ok with it. It's long overdue.

Well, since exercising 2A rights is so hard in Cook County, IL there would appear to be almost
no revenue gained from such a tax.
As far as the ammo that the gangbangers use, they probably stole the guns anyway and either just use the
ammo that came in the gun or they scoop some ammo during the burglary. Not only are they violent
criminals, but they are white collar criminals too (tax evaders). :-)

Re: Illinois county considers 'violence tax' on guns and amm
I would bet that most of the gangbanger guns are not stolen. The D.C. police acknowledge that the same sources that supply drugs in the Capitol make illegal weapons available and that it is much easier for criminals to buy guns than law abiding citizens. I suspect that Chicago is no different. Bloomberg's premise is that those illegal suppliers get their wares at gun shows and other "untraceable" venues, though there is little evidence that is the case. Those who can smuggle drugs into the country can just as easily smuggle guns.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:Well, since exercising 2A rights is so hard in Cook County, IL there would appear to be almost

You missed one: Elected politicians in Illinois can concealed carry.seamusTX wrote:Every member of the Cook County board is guaranteed a good salary, re-election unless they get convicted of a felony, health insurance, an upholstered chair for their generously upholstered backsides, and a nice pension.
They never seem to brag about that one.

Re: Illinois county considers 'violence tax' on guns and amm
Years ago, when I was working in Chicago (and living in Will County) there were signs at all the stores across the county line "No Cook County Tax" for beer. I guess they'll need to change their signs up a bit and add "or firearms and ammo tax".
