During my time in the military, I was assigned to the !st Special Operations Squadron based at Clark AB in the Phillipines. The commander had everyone pick a nickname and we had patches with that name put on our BDU's as our name. My nickname was Gilligan.

That's a great service! A long time ago I went to the graveside funeral of my best friend's father who was a WW2 veteran. Before the days of CDs and MP3s, they played Taps on a cassette deck. The tape was wrinkled/stretched or the pinch roller/capstan needed to be cleaned. That version of Taps was more depressing than the funeral. I love the idea of live Taps!

Jaguar comes from my initials, J. A. G. My dad flew model planes when I was young and he had a plane called the Jaguar. He told me he was named it after me, so it kind of stuck and I've been using it on forums all over the net.

Now my avatar is a different story. I found a photograph of my Great-Great-Grandfather taken in 1888 on findagrave.com. I took the photo and I am currently using it as my avatar. I also have one of my Great-Grandfather, Grandfather, and Father. I will cycle through those when I feel the need to change and maybe even put up one of me someday. By the way, findagrave is cool, I traced my family back to before the Revolutionary War. Started doing some digging and found my sir name came here in 1634, shanghaied by a family member no less.

Brand new to the forum after lurking for a while. I decided on my user name after reading a passionate debate happening in the Crime Blotter section about the "road rage shooting" in Houston. It was mentioned in that debate about the anonymity of the user in forums, posting your real name...integrity, etc (if, by some add reason you have NOT read that thread, you've got to go check it out). I'd never really thought about that aspect of it, so I decided...yeah, I'm just going to use my name and be in full ownership of what I say on here...or anywhere.

So, My name is Robert :tiphat: and my pistol is a PPS :fire (or at least it will be when I receive it)

"Whisky" is from the phonetic alphabet - the letter "W" (for the "W" in my given name, "William") - it's the spelling that used-to-be (no "e" back then). Too much time spent in the Army (9 yrs) and as a Commercial Pilot (31 yrs) where phonetics were the norm

(middle name is Thomas - "Tango".....my EMail address starts with Whiskytango, or WT, or William Thomas)
