"CHL Protection Plan" any good?

#1

Post by Paladin »

A friend of mine brought this to my attention:

http://www.chlpp.com/home.html

It's insurance for grand jury legal fees.

Curious what people know about this?

Not for me

I would not buy this.

I would focus on learning the parameters of "a good shoot" then
figuring out where my "lines" are within these parameters.

Then have enough money (or available debt) to pay for a lawyer. It will cost about what a "car" would cost.

The "car" will be less expensive the "better" the shoot. And more expensive the "worse" the shoot and the more you have to loose.
See you at the range

Yeah, but most folks I know don't have an extra 10-20 grand lying around. :(

This only covers you through the grand jury phase anyways, so you might as well save your money for if/when you need a lawyer. I don't think they charge you an arm and a leg until the trial phase.

I saw this at the last gun show. They had a table set up. I can't say if it is legit or not, but it sure had a funny smell about it, at least to me.

I'm of the same opinion: it only goes so far as the initial grand jury, but the greatest likely expense is after that.

Also, I'm not too sure of the organization's ability to function. I received a year's enrollment in the plan as a door prize at last February's TxCHIA banquet. After returning to them the form they asked for, I haven't heard another word from them......no ID card, no confirmation form, nothing............

Doesn't bode well..........

If I recall correctly, and I did a quick search here to no avail...

There was a discussion about this very company earlier this year on this website...

It smelled funny to me then, and one of the guys in the company I had heard of before, then it started smelling even funnier...

Take it for what its worth, they do not provide representation through the whole process for what you are paying for...

I'm not even looking at this anymore...Sorry about that, but I'd steer clear of this thing...

I would not waste money on it.

From what I understand, the insurance police available through the NRA will cover your legal costs on both Civil and Criminal trials as opposed to ONLY the Grand Jury phase. So it seems its pretty worthless, the most expensive part is going to be a criminal or civil suit not the grand jury part.
