There must be some mistake, I thought guns could only be used to commit crimes but this story makes it sound like an armed, law abiding citizen PREVENTED a crime... I'm confused. :???:

Another good news story.. :thumbs2:

I have a good friend in his early 40's that's a grandfather....
I'm hoping I'll be at least 60 before that happens for me...

It's almost as if the mystical guns had no moral conscience of ability to reason of their own.

Since the armed robber was only 19, I'm sure the Brady Campaign will add him to the totals for the number of "children" killed by guns this year. Funny how context matters.

Good shootin' grandpa!

Also nice to see the felony murder doctrine being used to charge the other robber with murder for his part in the crime.

And Florida has the 10-20-Life Law
•Felon in possession of a gun - mandatory minimum 3 year prison sentence
•Brandishing a gun in the commission of a crime - mandatory minimum 10 year sentence
•Discharging a gun in the commission of a crime - mandatory minimum 20 year sentence
•Injuring or killing another person in the commission of a crime, by discharging a firearm - 25 years to life in state prison

BTW, what is the deal with the Dollar store robberies? Never had a reason to patronize, certainly will stay clear at night!

Further WOKV coverage stated:

"...57 year old grandfather..."

and

"He's always been a marksman," the wife told jacksonville.com. "He shoots in competitions, but this is the first time
he's ever killed anyone and I don't know he'll handle that."

With any luck, it will be the last time he ever has to kill someone. His IDPA <or similar> experience has just paid off.

The above is a followup video news story.

The BG's were using what appeared to be identical black pistols, described as "Airsoft" or "CO2 cartridge" pistols.

The CHL had a real .45 pistol. He told the guys to put down their guns. The one that did was the one who escaped for a while,
before being turned in by his relatives.

The BG who did not put his gun down was shot 3 times by the CHL, and was dead before the 1st LEO's could arrive on the scene.

The above link also shows the dead BG's mother. She's rather different than the usual apologists for dead criminal sons.

Wow, I am rather surprised by the mom and the g/f. Much more mature than often seen. Sorry for them. Sadly two mens stupid choices will make many peoples lives harder.
