I used to sing that song all the time.........while I was going to A&M (late 1970s). Must be something in the water down there. Your grandfather sounds like he was a prince.

Absolutely. The song Gloomy Monday, wholly instrumental, was even banned in some places because it was said to lead people to commit suicide.
Gloomy Sunday perhaps?
There is a Gloomy Monday, but yes, apparently I meant Gloomy Sunday.

Thanks Bill. I absolutely love this version by Brother Iz, along with most of his other music. I dare say I want it played at my funeral.

The Minstrel Boy is another song that gives me chills and this version in particular is amazing:

some article wrote:On August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed when the helicopter he was flying in hit a man-made ski slope while trying to navigate through dense fog. Vaughn had played a show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wisconsin with Robert Cray and His Memphis Horns and Eric Clapton. Vaughan was informed by a member of Clapton's crew that three seats were open on their helicopter, which was returning to Chicago. It turned out there was only one seat left; Vaughan requested it from his brother, who obliged. Three members of Eric Clapton's entourage were also killed. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Stevie Ray Vaughan #7 in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

10,000 Maniacs - "Grey Victory"
This seems like a lively and upbeat tune, until you listen to the lyrics.

Randy Newman - "I Love LA"

Hate New York City
It's cold and it's damp
And all the people dressed like monkeys
Let's leave Chicago to the Eskimos
That town's a little bit too rugged
For you and me you bad girl

Rollin' down the Imperial Highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side "rlol"
Santa Ana winds blowin' hot from the north
And we was born to ride

I make CDs for my wife for the times that I may not have the right words for her. Angel Eyes was the first song on the disc. When I ask her “what did I do?”, she points her finger to my chest and says “because I know what’s in there”. I’m pretty sure it isn’t my pectoralis major.

:thumbs2: Sometimes I make CDs too, obviously not for your wife , but to convey a "message" to a special person.
