Funny thing is, I know from reading about a years worth of this forum, every one says it takes at least 2 weeks for it to show up on the web site.. yet I still find my self checking the site and wondering 'is it going to change?!' And now that Gunnewb made his post I have new hope that maybe.. JUST maybe we got ours in on the right week! I saw a few posts from July where people were getting them in <20 days.. oh how great that would be..
And yes I am sure the people here in Austin take 2 hour lunches, several 30 min breaks.. I know cause I live in Austin and thats how I am! (no I don't work for DPS or the city or state)

Called DPS today and got more information...
I was told by a different CS rep (a woman) that my background check has cleared (officially came back from the FBI as clear). She told me that the only hold up is data entry. According to the rep, It can take between 2 and 3 weeks to enter an application. No worries grifter... your BG check is probably already finished.
I asked a few specific questions this time about the BG check. The rep told me that they send out the BG checks in batches to the FBI. The FBI can take anywhere between 1-3 weeks to process the requests... After this, the DPS sends your info to manufacturing and then sends out your plastic.
I think the determining factor in the difference between those who get their plastic in 20 days and those who get theirs in 60+ is the batch that their BG check is sent in... and the efficiency of the DPS employees who enter the account info. It seems as though some people just get lucky with their timing... I'm pretty sure that the DPS starts the BG check process as soon as you complete your online app and submit your fingerprints through fast. So, if your app/fingerprints are submitted when the DPS prepares a batch...you have a better chance of getting your plastic in under 30 days.

Gunnewb, that is great info.. I can hope (but not assume) My app was in the same batch as yours since we sent in on same day (since I am in Austin it doesn't take more than a day to get to DPS), did finger prints 1 day apart and apps only a few days apart.. I can hope at least :)

Well, my BG check is finished and they haven't even touched my paperwork. That's why I believe that the BG check process starts as soon as one submits their online APP and fingerprints.
Your APP and Fingerprints where submitted before mine... I think that it's safe to assume that our BG checks were in the same batch.

Wish mine would change!! I mailed mine 8/1/12 and nothing has changed. Did my class 7/28/12, fingerprints and app 7/30/12, and mailed my stuff off 8/1/12. No update online.
