Don't Need CHL Anymore
Read in this mornings paper that you don't need a CHL anymore to bypass the security check to get into the capitol. All you gotta do is plunk down 100 bucks plus processing and fingerprint fees, get fingerprinted and pass a background check just like a CHL background check and you are good to go. Does not say anything about renewals. This is apparently being done for those that have business in the capitol but do not want to go through the class and shooting to get a CHL.

It pacifies the hoplophobe liberals who go to the Capitol regularly that want their own express lane.stash wrote:Read in this mornings paper that you don't need a CHL anymore to bypass the security check to get into the capitol. Kinda related/unrelated but funny, my spell checker wants to replace "hoplophobe" with "loophole" until I added it to the dictionary.
(My "Democrat Dictionary" defines "loophole" as "freedom" which they feel a need to eliminate, unless it benefits them only. Example: an anti-gun mayor having security staff obtain weapons easily is not a loophole, but if common people did, it is a loophole.)

Interesting. So, they pay some money and don't get a license. I'm okay with that.
Now, for those that have been to the capital and through this other line. Did they verify that you actually have a weapon? I think I remember one or two people saying that they did ask if you were actually carrying in order to go through that line. And did going through this other line keep them from searching any other bags or purses? I have not been to the capital yet and don't know what the normal security check does. I'm just wondering because someone could go through this line after paying less than what most folks would pay for their CHL and be carrying a handgun illegally into the capital.

I don't remember if they asked but they definitely didn't do a pat down or make me show it.C-dub wrote:Now, for those that have been to the capital and through this other line. I sincerely apologize to anybody I offended by suggesting the Second Amendment also applies to The People who don't work for the government.

They don't verify nor pat you down. I really don't see why an officer would do that in the first?
You go to the CHL lane, give them your ID, and they scan it and enter in the computer. Hand you back your ID and tell you have a nice day.
Never had a problem carrying at the Capitol.

Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of going thru a line for chl holders in front of everyone? I really don't like the public to know I carry.
Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
If you don't want to use the special line, you can go through the metal detectors like everyone else.
Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
After going through those old threads I was reminded that the CHL lines are the employee lines. The employee swipes or gets their "badge" swiped and we get our CHL swiped to verify validity. No one has said they were made to prove they were carrying. Only asked.JeepGuy79 wrote:am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of going thru a line for chl holders in front of everyone? So, I suspect that these folks going through the background check will get some other type of ID that will also get swiped. I'm okay with that. The funny part will be that folks going through the regular line will think there's even more people "strapped" in there than there actually is.

good with me then. great info on this forum!
Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
I took a hundred students to Austin back in March. As they all waited to pass thru security I quickly walked thru the CHL line. Lady DPS was the nicest ever. Never even asked about a weapon even though I was with a school group (I didn't have a gun on me, though I was not unarmed).

Yeah that should attract less attention than a CHL lineapostate wrote:If you don't want to use the special line, you can go through the metal detectors like everyone else.

Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
I don't know about yalls experience but was not express when I went through it. (Though there was not a huge line) I got through at the same pace as the group I walked up with. Maybe the folks running the line when I got there were really efficient. Just sharing that express was not my view of it.

Re: Don't Need CHL Anymore
Pardon my skepticism, but this smells of revenue more than security. You know, it's kinda' like the overall expen$e of a Texas CHL being so greater than most, if not all, of our reciprocating CC states.
