Experence @ Friday's in downtown Dallas

#1

Post by wo5m »

Two days ago and friend and I decided to eat dinner at the Fridays in downtown Dallas. Both of us are CHL's and were packing. We sat down at our table and placed our order. Just about the time we where getting ready to leave my friend raises her hand and points towards the entrance hallway. She says, "Did you see that when you came in". I turned around and saw not one, but two 51% signs. Both signs were parallel and posted on the side entrance wall with the upper border of the signs touching the celling.

I made the point that is was improperly posted because I can't believe Fridays gets over half its income from liquor. I think they just put up the wrong sign. I didn't see it as a big deal because we were leaving anyway. Had I see it earlier I wouldn't not have entered or left when I first saw it.

I wonder how many other people made the same mistake I did. I guess I will not be going back there anytime soon.

51% signs were probably a mistake.

I thought Dallas didn't have bars. Only restaurants that served alcohol.

Don't tell the folks in Deep Ellum or Lower Greenville that.

I'd suggest looking up phone number of Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and asking them to check it out. And ask them to get back to you with what they find/decide.

If you do not hear back from them within a reasonable period of time and you really want an answer, make a written Open Records request, then they will have to respond (or else explain to attorney general's office why not).

The presence of the sign doesn't make it a 51% establishment. If its obvious that the joint does more food than drink. don't worry about it.

I have emailed TABC on an almost identical situation at a Ft Worth restaurant. TABC sent someone by within a few days. They emailed me back saying they had visited and provided the restaurant with the correct signs.
Next time I was by there it had the standard "possession of unlicensed handgun.." sign up instead of the 51%

Fridays? They don't stock topshelf Gin or Scotch so I couldn't see them truly gettin 51 percent of their sales from alcohol. I can think back to some of the tabs my team has racked up on business dinners and lunches...just appetizers alone can ruin ya for life!

Seriously, I agree with the majority that is probably a mistake. Last I was aware, Fridays was not the 'in' place to go drinking.

It's a mistake. I manage a local Fridays and can say that it is an honest mistake. Tell the mgmt (GM's name is Maria if in West End). But if you want a quicker response the TABC is always looking for ways to justify its existance, they can bring replacement signs I think.

As for not being the place to drink...tell that to my regulars, we have many.

And what's up with Fridays getting rid of there Oreo Madness. Two huge ice cream filled Oreos covered with fudge and carmel. Sounds like there is a managment problem at Fridays.

Man I thought I was the only one who missed that dessert. In fact the only time I go to eat at Fridays was to get that dessert, they don't have it anymore, so I eat elsewhere.
