The video doesn't provide much with which to determine what took place or what precipitated the shot.
Well, the trial was over several days ago (the 13th). Guilty of murder.

And rightfully he was.

I keep reading where his video was 22 minutes long yet there are only just short clips of it being shown. I would liked to have seen the entire video. I'm sure the jury did get to see the entire thing.

I see that now. The defense never even called any witnesses. Very strange. Either the guy was exactly as the prosecution portrayed him (usually doubtful), or the defense attorney had some reason for not calling anyone for rebuttal.

That's the way he was describing it on the radio. I didn't bother watching.

I watched it....it was only about 2.5 minutes...not uncut. It couldn't have helped his defense because it was an obvious attempt to stage a justification for shooting someone. He kept repeating "my life is in danger" and "I'm standing my ground," like they are magical incantations. There was no fear or concern in his voice whatsoever --and while he kept saying his life was in danger: 1) the tape didn't indicate any danger --no one was approaching him when he was saying this; and 2) if he was afraid, all he had to do was go back into his house. That said, the neighbors having the party sounded like a bunch of jerks.

It sounds like the convict heard it from a radio personality even if he wasn't on the radio at the rime.

I think the clear message is: DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN AN ESCALATION! (Even passive-aggressive escalations!) Don't trade words and silly machismo banter. Don't go looking for a fight.

You have no requirement to retreat, but that doesn't mean you should march into a hornets' nest to set up camp, either.

The retreat condition seems more like, "If you're walking down the street, minding your own business, in a place you're legally allowed to occupy, and somebody presents you with a clear threat to your life or serious bodily harm, you are under no obligation to retreat before meeting force with force." That's not what happened in the video I just watched.

Good for him. He got what he had coming to him. He earned it, so to speak.
