Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston
I have been there many times too, but never had a problem except for the prices..It literally is very close to $100.00 more to buy any gun..I highly suggest "The Arms Room" on I-45 south...It is on Exit 20, but I can't remember the exit name. It is a few miles after Nasa Raod 1 going South on I-45..They have great prices for deals for renting and buying, and also good customer service.

I've heard Michael Berry advertise for top gun. He also says if you ever have a problem with someone he speaks for to email him and he will call the owner and give the feedback he has gotten an make the situation right.

Who is Michael Berry? Is he associated with Berry's Bullets? If so, kudos. They are a blessing to a reloader.NaCl wrote:I've heard Michael Berry advertise for top gun.

He is a local radio personality. 740 KTRH in afternoon drive slot, plus 950 at other times.teddy salad wrote:Who is Michael Berry? Is he associated with Berry's Bullets? If so, kudos. They are a blessing to a reloader.NaCl wrote:I've heard Michael Berry advertise for top gun.

I just went to Top Gun and overall the experience was OK. The wait was a reasonable 10 minutes or so for the lane to become available. It was a little smokey, but not too bad for the amount of people shooting. It has been about a year since I had been there so I didn't notice too any changes at all.
Five people were at the counter with two handling two groups of people that were going to shoot when I arrived. The other three were talking to each other and I was ignored for about two minutes while they finished their conversation. An acknowledgement of. "I will be with you in a minute." would have been nice.
Cost was just under $20.00.
Over all a positive experience.

I looked around once, and I couldn't even find a retailer selling Sigs and Glocks at their prices. Their firearm prices are utterly insulting, and their ammo prices are merely offensive. I want to ask them sometime if they actually sell guns there, but I don't want to insult anyone.WildBill wrote: Their prices are pricey.

Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston
I was working at a Circuit City in college around the time DVD players came out.
Well, one day a fellow came in and was way too enthusiastic about DVD players. He wanted to know EVERYTHING. He was EXCITED. He was ready to learn.
His exuberance amused me, and after I told him all there was to know, he walked away to go to the audio department and I began relaying the humor of the interaction to a coworker. Well, I played it up a little. Mid-impression my buddy quit laughing and just began nodding. I finished and looked to my left, where I saw the eyes of the man I had been mocking peering over the laptop display towards me. He had taken a detour and heard every word.
He confronted me and I stumbled out some lame excuse about not making fun of him. . . just relaying his questions to my coworker to see if I missed anything. He cussed me out for a second and left the store. He didn't swing at me. He didn't get me fired (he probably could have). He just looked hurt and disgusted as he walked out.
I had taken somebody's pure, simple joy and turned it into something ugly.
I can only think of a few times I've felt lower than that. I was about 19 and have to say I learned an important lesson about growing up that day.
I hope at least one of the guys at the store learned the same lesson from your encounter.

Re: Bad Experience at Top Gun - Houston
I've been to Top Gun a few times. I usually do most of my shooting at Memorial Shooting Center instead because it is a little more convenient for me, the waits aren't nearly as bad, and the prices are a bit cheaper.
I believe that Top Gun is a really good range to take people who are not used to guns / shooting. It is bringht and open, and overall a lot less intimidating than most ranges, IMHO.
I did have one fun / interesting experience at Top Gun. I noticed that they had some boxes of my carry ammo (Winchester Ranger HP's) on the shelf, so I asked the guy helping me how much it cost. He asked if I was a LEO and when I said no, he proceeded to tell me that it was illegal to sell that ammo to anyone who wasn't law enforcement. I asked again about the cost, telling him that I was OK with not buying from them, just curious about their pricing. He flat out refused to tell me the price. The same guy then checked the ammo I was planning to shoot and saw 2 boxes of the exact same ammo sitting there in my range bag. I politely told him that he was mistaken about the law.

He must have read the box which said "For Law Enforcement Use Only."Katygunnut wrote:I did have one fun / interesting experience at Top Gun. He was clearly confusing Winchester's policy with the law. It's just annoying how employees at gun shops / ranges believe that they are the ultimate source of knowledge for all things related to firearms.WildBill wrote:He must have read the box which said "For Law Enforcement Use Only."Katygunnut wrote:I did have one fun / interesting experience at Top Gun. It's probably true for most specialty retail stores. We just notice it more.Katygunnut wrote:He was clearly confusing Winchester's policy with the law.
