Re: Stock up on ammo
RIght before Obummer was elected Academy had 500 rounds of x39 for $75 IIRC. Lets say I bought 15k rounds and when the panic buying started I could have sold the $80 case for $200 that would have made me a good bit of money. 5 years ago I bought enough Ranger 127 grain +P+ so I don't have to worry about where I'm gonna get my SD ammo. Plus it goes for $10 more for a box of 50 right now

Calm down. There's no need to stock up on ammo
until after I get my 4 cases that are back ordered.
Then go ahead.

As much as the White House Occupier is against citizens having firearms, he sure is a good salesman.

Re: Stock up on ammo
No reason to stock up. A modest amount of ammo on hand at all times, say 15k to 20k rounds should be more than sufficient.

Re: Stock up on ammo
Tomorrow I'm going to go to the range and compare the two ammos discussed in this post:
http://www.gunatics.com/forums/ammuniti ... d-poa.html
Suppose both perform equally well for me, which would be better to stock up on? Would smaller 100 round boxes be better somehow than 250 round boxes?

Re: Stock up on ammo
Only you can define your needs. Trying to get people on the internet who don't know you or your finances to speculate on how much ammunition to keep is unlikely to yield satisfactory answer. I know some people who boast about having 8k rounds of 556 NATO rounds squirreled away. That seems like a waste to me, but who I am to decide what excites them. That's over $1k in ammo just sitting there. If your usage dictates such inventory than you won't need others to provide that info to you.Ace5299 wrote:Sorry for the silly question but as I read about stocking up on ammo...I assume you are talking range type ammo? Is that correct? I have a few hundred carry ammo and about 500 range ammo. Do I need more carry ammo? If so, how much more?
The future value of that $1000 is more interesting to me than 8 cases of rounds hanging out in the safe. For the preppers, they have a different value equation that works for them.

Re: Stock up on ammo
This thread got me to thinking..... I don't have anywhere near what you all have and I usually am the one who buys overpriced ammo at the range (usually two trips to the counter... lol). So, I just bought 1K 9mm rnds (147 grain)/500 .40 rnds (180 grain) (target) and 150 9mm/50 .40 Fed HST (same weight as FMJ). $600...... There goes my deployment money for this month, lol!!!
Bought more 9mm becuase me and the misses each have one, I am the only one with a .40 though... :-)

Actually that 8k rounds of 5.56 used to cost $1k. Now it cost $2.4k.gigag04 wrote:Only you can define your needs. Re: Stock up on ammo
I don't for one second believe society is going to come unglued and all of us will resort to killing each other. I can hope... But I really doubt it will happen. What I am is an opportunist. Three times in my lifetime I have watched politics cause ammo and certain firearms become very expensive. The third time I made a killing unloading AK47's that I paid 300 bucks each for. I don't mind a three hundred percent profit... I am a true believer in capitalism . I also have more rounds than I can realistically count of the "popular" calibers and paid 25-40% less than folks are paying right now. A bet I am willing to make...and quite frankly won't lose either way if I am wrong is that the power structure of our government is about to shove four more years of odumbell straight up our noses. Buy all the ammo you can afford right now! Pick up a few cheap "assault" rifles while your at it. Either way, you won't be stuck with them.
Funny thing happened at the end of 08... The beginning of the end for a free American society. I was at the range lobbing 100's of rounds of ammo down the lane while watching folks around me counting shots as if they were rationing water for a trip across the desert. I figure Odumbell helped me make about ten grand or so... LOL. You can only imagine what will happen if they give him four years with no concerns about re-election.
Guess what I am doing right now...buying all the cheap "assault" rifles and high capacity mags I can get! Odumbell loses...I can unload them for what I paid or a slight gain. Odumbell wins and I make a nice profit!

Re: Stock up on ammo
No kidding... It works! The AK's were the easiest to move at doubles and triples! SKS had very little potential. It is all about timing.... I sold century AK's to people on gun broker for 750-900 on the high end. I had not paid more than 350 for any of them. Now they are around four hundred last I looked. I plan to have twenty by November. I may be the only guy on the forum cheering for Odumbell to win...LOL. I bought a basic AR15 at Academy for 800 in October 08... A guy tried to buy it from me as I was leaving...lol. It was the bare bones smith. Sold it three or four weeks later on gun broker for 1200 dollars.Shinesintx wrote:Dayum you for putting those thoughts in my head.03Lightningrocks wrote:I don't for one second believe society is going to come unglued and all of us will resort to killing each other. Of coarse the intentions were never to sell any of them... I was just getting rid of my private collection.
