Carry in a Texas State Park?

#1

Post by markmac56 »

I just looked and I may have missed it in the 'prohibited places to carry' section, but I've not seen that it is illegal to license-carry in a state park. If I'm wrong, that's fine, just want to know for sure.

You're good to go in TX state parks as long as it is not land owned by COE.

:iagree:

Check who is the authority over the body of water, that'll uusally let you know if it's COE or not.

Eisenhower state park (Lake Texoma) is off limits due to COE owning the lake
Glen Rose state park (Dinosaur Valley) is good to go because the river is not COE

My wife and I decided to visit Tyler State Park on one of our mini-dates. Since this whole COE thing gets a little confusing, I had her park the car outside of the gate, disarmed, and went into the office. I asked if there was any problem with CHL carry. Their answer was, "If you have a CHL, then carry on". Had a wonderful time that day.

History: Tyler State Park is 985.5 acres in Smith County, north of Tyler. The park includes a 64-acre lake. The land was deeded by private owners in 1934 and 1935;

State owns it; not ACOE ... carry there all you want

Easiest way is check TPWD's 1) State Park site and if a major lake 2)the TPWD Fishing site ... and 3) ACOE recreation/lakes gateway site, but Yeah, they'll usually know in the office

I personally wouldn't recomeend carrying if you are on a COE owned lake. If you are found carrying and charged, then you will end up with a federal conviction and potentially lose your CHL.

From the research I've done before, Inks Lake is not COE. I've carried there.

I just found this link -- can someone confirm that this is all the COE lakes in Texas, as it appears to be? http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visito ... m?state=TX" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would say since that is the COE website, then they have listed all of their lakes. Doubt they would miss any.

Inks Lake is State/LCRA ... I used my CHL as my ID and was carrying in the office when getting my "Bluebonnet Pass" (now called "Texas Parklands Passport ") there... carry away.

Passes Available for use at Texas State Parks

I agree that's the "lakes"
However, if you use online maps etc and notice such small bodies of water there are some water bodies named "conservation pond site No 6" or similar, those are usually Army Corps locations, though not lakes, and sometimes/often bordered by private property.

It isn't all the land they control, example "Addicks dam reservoir/Barker .. etc

I'm a little ignorant on the COE stuff (I'm still waiting on my plastic). I mountain bike a lot at Cedar Hill State Park. Joe Pool lake is listed on that website...does that mean I'm not legal to carry in that state park? I was going to look for a sign next time I go and ask them to be sure, but was just wondering what you guys say...

Thanks!

You can carry in the state park as long as the land under your feet is not COE property. Not sure where the COE boundary for the lake and the state boundary for the park start and stop. I believe there are usually markers every so often along the boundary line showing the Corp property line.

I visited the state park at Lake Tawakoni a couple days ago. It was posted NO FIREARMS. I don't know if is COE or not.
