Used CHL as a form of ID?
A situation got me wondering if any of this forum's members have used a CHL as an identification?
I keep my TX CHL on top of my DL to remind myself if stopped while driving to remember first and foremost to inform the officer.
I don't frequent bars or drink very often, but a few weeks ago I was with a friend when we were ID'ed (Note: I was NOT carrying) and mistakenly showed my top "ID".
I certainly got a weird look and a "oh, never seen one of those". I felt a little uncomfortable, thinking that the waitress must be wondering if I was drinking and carrying...
I practice the "concealed means concealed" mentality (again, I was NOT carrying, but same idea of keeping my CHL on the hush) and would rather NOT use it as an ID.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

Haven't done that one (yet), but I do sometimes space out a bit and try to pay for stuff with my employee ID and clock-in with my credit card.RSJ wrote:A situation got me wondering if any of this forum's members have used a CHL as an identification?

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Yep, I have. In New Mexico almost every place that sells alcohol has a policy of requiring horizontal IDs. My driver's license is still vertical (I don't drink enough to bother getting a horizontal one ), so I just showed the person my CHL.

I got a US Passport Card (wallet size) for $30 that I can use as a second form of ID. From an entry to the US standpoint, it's only good for land/sea entry from Canada, Mexico, and (sea) Caribbean. I've got a regular passport book, but I don't like to carry it around unless I'm traveling.

Last summer I was in a casino in Colorado, when I won a nice little jackpot. When the Pit Boss came over to reset the machine, and get my information, he asked for two forms of ID. I handed him my DL and CHL.
When he looked at my CHL, he paused, looked at me and grinned. He said "Well, I guess I had better make sure I bring you your cash!" My friend and I had a nice chuckle over that!

Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

This is the only time I use it as ID. I've always wondered what other people use as their second form...carry around their SS card or passport all the time? No thanks.Westfield wrote:Yes..I was at a bank yesterday. They teller asked for two forms of ID..I used my DL and CHL. Do it all the time..No biggie...

I lost my drivers license last year and when I went to DPS to get a new one the lady would not accept my CHL as ID. I had to show her my Social Security card, you know the one with no picture on it....

Re: Used CHL as a form of ID?
I once knew a girl that used a passport as an I.D. because she did not drive a car (she had a chauffeur). I suggested that she get a CHL for an I.D. because she was worried about damaging her passport since the pages are not laminated like a driver's license. Now, she has a CHL and that's all that she uses as her I.D. everywhere she goes, but she doesn't carry nor drive. She only carries when she takes out her trash Thursday night for the Friday morning trash man. I didn't bother telling her that she did not need a CHL to carry on her own driveway because I want more CHL's (and NRA members) out there for political reasons
Personally, I only use a CHL as an I.D. when visiting gun ranges and gun shops.

Texas does issue an official ID card for those who don't drive. I wonder how she got a passport without a photo ID.drjoker wrote:I once knew a girl that used a passport as an I.D. because she did not drive a car (she had a chauffeur). I got a passport when I was a kid without a photo ID. Of course I lost my passport, so I'm not sure if you need another ID to renew a passport.WildBill wrote:Texas does issue an official ID card for those who don't drive. You just mail your old one in to get a new one.Thomas wrote:I got a passport when I was a kid without a photo ID.
