Re: gun confiscation
I could see paying $5,000-$15,000 to deal with a completely justified self-defense shooting. I am not worried about losing a $300, $500, or $1000 carry rig.

Re: gun confiscation
I believe the author of that article is in another part of the country. Not saying it is always going to happen in Tejas, but I can recall incidents where two different CHL students were involved in shootings and the police gave them their handgun back the very same night. One in Lewisvile was a homeowner arriving to find burglary in progress and the other was an attempted robbery in San Antonio (where 2 BGs got wound up getting dead).

I suspect that the cost of replacing my glock would be less than the $2400 a year that disappears from my wallet in car insurance (joys of teenage drivers in the house). And certainly would consider it well spent if it had to go away after keeping either myself or a member of my family breathing.

No advocation for carrying an unreliable weapon, that took it out of context. He was saying that a Glock, while ugly to some, more than makes up for it in reliability. I used to be somewhat anti-glock. My XDm's were the end-all for me. I also let a Kahr PM9 in the club. I was in the Glock-Knocker club. Then I made the mistake of buying a Glock 30 a few months ago. The XDm's now stay in the safe and the 30 is my EDC.Pawpaw wrote:Where did you see someone advocate carrying an unreliable gun?apostate wrote:Life can get very short for those who carry an unreliable gun.Pawpaw wrote:Life is too short to carry an ugly gun.
I agree reliability is more important than looks, but it is trivially easy to have both.
There is no gun that accurately delivers the goods, in a deadly fashion, with almost no fear of failure, that can be called ugly. My XDm's have never had a FTE, FTF, or other malfunction using any ammo fed to it. It really is a sweet looking weapon. My Glock has never had a FTE or FTF using any sort of ammo. My XDm carry is a 3.8" 9mm and the Glock is a .45. They are virtually identical in size. The XDm holds 13 in a standard mag while the 30 holds 10. I would rather carry the three less rounds in a far more lethal load...ymmv. I could easily get the smaller 45 in the XDm family and then carry that as my EDC. I really would like to check out their new XDs single stack 45. Would make a wonderful BUG.

Re: gun confiscation
I have to agree with most of the previous posters. In the rare event that you actually need to use your weapon it seems that you would be happy to give up just about any amount of extra $$$ to assure that you had something you could bet your life on. Look on the bright side, if you don't get your gun back it gives you a great excuse to go shopping for a new one.
