Garland gun range target of media smear campaign

Re: Garland gun range target of media smear campaign
That statement was in 2010 and came from a woman who did not know what she was talking about. Look at all the different news articles about it, and you will see how things have been misconstrued.

I wouldn't focus too much on that story. It is similar to what some of the posters in this forum do. They look for one item out of line in a post and then try to act as if the whole post is invalid based on that one wrong item. I usually aim for the general concept.steveincowtown wrote:True.03Lightningrocks wrote:

I just find it hard to believe that if:
"Another found shell casings in his yard."
...that all the blame should be directed at the range. It seems like shell casings in a yard, in the neighborhood, might be a better place to focus the investigation.

I am starting to dominate the thread, so I will stop posting after saying... Aman Brothra!!!!
I like having an outdoor range 15 minutes from my home. It would suck if a few bad actors ruined that for us all. The next closest range is a good 30 mile drive for me!
I do appreciate that they are simply asking for safety improvements rather than trying to shut the range down. It is on the owners of the range now to do what is right.

Agreed. That is absolutely all we are going for, although I can't speak for the other people that live on the other side of Pleasant Valley, much closer to it. I think that is where more of the noise related complaints have been coming from. So, just to clarify, we are not part of the "noise pollution" group, just the "stop bullets from hitting out houses" group.
My wife and I appreciate the support we have been getting on this, and do understand there will be others that will not be happy even with what we are trying to accomplish, but that's what makes this country great.
Also, just a quick background to show where we are coming from: My wife and I are both former military with CHLs, and proud carriers of .45ACPs, and owners of everything from competition pellet guns to a real nice Browning Over/Under (wife's Valentine's present 5 years ago). We both shoot competitively in all sorts of competitions including 3 gun and Sportsman Team Challenge. My wife also competed in the 2000 Olympic Games with the US Pistol Team. So, to have any inclination that we are anti gun/anti range is the furthest thing from the truth.

It was my understanding that Oncor had reported no problems with damage to any of the power lines behind the range.Millerman wrote:It's been documented that people shoot at the power lines that run right behind the range, as well as birds in the area. The problems are definitely not with the 99% of responsible shooters. It's the odd knucklehead that screws things up and could possibly kill someone.
It's the combination of raising the berm and improved overhead barriers that we hope will put an end to this.

That could just mean they missed. A decent shooter would not likely do something that stupid. The kind of jerk that would do something like that, would likely be something less than a good marksman and most likely lacking intelligence.Commander wrote:It was my understanding that Oncor had reported no problems with damage to any of the power lines behind the range.Millerman wrote:It's been documented that people shoot at the power lines that run right behind the range, as well as birds in the area. FYI, the city of Rowlett has restricted shooting at GPSR to .30 caliber and lower. I just went to shoot my Mosin and Buddy gave me the bad news.

Is that rifle only? What about .40/.45 pistols?

That's interesting. I didn't know a city could do that.RottenApple wrote:FYI, the city of Rowlett has restricted shooting at GPSR to .30 caliber and lower. I just went to shoot my Mosin and Buddy gave me the bad news.

I also seem to remember one gentleman that showed a hole into his house that was only a foot or two from the ground and another hole in his fence about the same height he claimed the shot came from. That trajectory is not possible from a long distance and I don't even know if it is in line with the range.steveincowtown wrote:True.03Lightningrocks wrote:

Some rounds could be coming from some moron at the range, but I also think that many of the claims are just trying to make it seem like it happens all the time.

So I still couldn't shoot my pistol caliber .44 magnum Henry?RottenApple wrote:Whoops. Sorry about that. That's on rifle only.Munk wrote:RottenApple wrote:FYI, the city of Rowlett has restricted shooting at GPSR to .30 caliber and lower. I just went to shoot my Mosin and Buddy gave me the bad news.
