WTB - Kahr PM9 (HOU area)

#1

Post by RussW »

I've decided I need to move up from my pocket .380 to a 9mm and have pretty much decided on the Kahr PM9. If you have or know of one for sale, please PM and let me know.

Thanks - Russ

Where is Keemah? I have a PM9 I might sell. I have been considering a different carry option. It is about two years old and shoots GREAT. This gun literally NEVER fails. Oh yeah... I put night sights on it. Trijicon, about six months ago. They are bright as new!

I just purchased a CM9, the economy version of the PM9. Same size, feels the same, and mine ran really smooth right out of the box. I believe the trigger is better than my PM9, for a lot less money. ( under $400 from Bud's ) This might be an option if you can't locate a good PM9.

What's the real difference, other than price, between the CW9 and the PM9?

CW9 is larger. The CM9 is the same size as the PM9, but the slide is not as well dressed out, barrel has different rifling (conventional vs. polygonal), and no night sight option. Frame and trigger are the same.

Personally, I love my PM9, but might seriously consider the cost savings on the CM9 if I was buying again, even without the night sights and other differences. I only use the night sights to help find it in the middle of the night anyway. ;-)

I love my PM9 also. It has turned out to be my everyday carry. I can slip it inside the waistband and go. It hides better than just about all my other options.(other than my P380, (but I have worries about firepower with that thing, the .380)... it has very low "KNOCK DOWN" power...LOL. :evil2: Maybe I can get me some of them bullets that put nine inch holes in people.

We own three Kahrs now between my wife and I myself: a PM9, a CW9, and a CW45. Despite my love affair with 1911s and pocket revolvers, my daily carry these days is largely divided between my PM9 and the CW45. The PM series of guns are quite a bit more expensive than the CW/CM series. As mentioned before, the primary differences are that the PM series guns have polygonal rifling, and they have more a complex series of radii machined into the slide surfaces. Also, the CW/CM pistols are only available with a pinned front sight, and they are not available with a black nitrite coated slide. The pinned front sight does make it more difficult to install night sights, but it is possible to do so.

I found my PM9 used in a pawn shop, and it came with the black slide and factory installed Trijicon night sights. The used price was $550, for a pistol with a NIB MSRP of $958. By comparison, the NIB MSRP price for the CM9 is $517....and nobody pays MSRP. Based on the ownership experience of my wife's CW9, and on my own experience with my CW45, I would unhesitatingly buy the CM9 if I were on the market for a Kahr pocket 9mm today. Of course, my luck being what it is, Kahr announced the release of the CM9 just a few weeks after I bought my used PM9.

Really, the main difference is that the PM9 goes up to eleven. :biggrinjester:

Thanks for the clarification between the CM9 and the PM9. In my earlier post, I meant to say "CM9" not CW9.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of the different rifling and machining? Doesn't seem like the difference was enough for you to spend the extra $ if you had it to do over again.

Thanks again for all the input... Russ

IIRC the PM9 has a slightly faster muzzle velocity due to the rifling.

Exactly. But the difference in that short of a barrel is maybe 10-15 fps

williams? I believe we may know each other. I have a PM9, great gun. I can't decide if I like it or my Walther PPS better. Shoot them both before you decide ....
