When I was 14 I went on a pheasant hunting trip with my dad. Among other things I shot a rabbit out of self defense. We woke up saturday morning and the big headline up in the panhandle was, "Man Shot By Pheasant". Evidently a gentleman shot down a pheasant and went to retrieve him. He leaned over his shot gun to pick the bird up by the neck and in a classic Monty Python "not quite dead yet" moment the pheasant kicked and his spur caught the trigger blowing a hole in the guy's chest.

Don't you know??? That is how you check to see if it is loaded. You look down the barrel, pull the trigger and if you see light... it was loaded.

IMO, the video is fake. If you look frame by frame, the shotgun moves ever so slightly in an unnatural way before it fires. Also, it seems like the hat would not fly straight up but would flip back.

I would accept the hat argument being real but had the shotgun not moved, he would have taken the blast in the face.

It's still a good lesson.

The video, while showing a plausible situation, doesn't "feel" right. The sounds, the reason the scene was being recorded in the first place, et cetera, just suggest something is wrong here.

I still don't know why people want to look down the bore when a firearm doesn't fire - but they do.
