Traveling to Steamboat Springs. Checking with with y'all

#1

Post by Kahrry »

I'm flying directly from Austin to Steamboat Springs, CO and plan to check my pistol. I've read the FAA guidelines and, even though this is my first time traveling with it, I think I got it covered.

My real question has to do with carry/open carry laws. It seems like some jurisidiction is granted to the cities. I want to conceal carry and possibly open carry if I want to tuck my shirt in and pull my coat off in a restaurant to sit down. I know there is reciprocity with Texas and I have a Texas CHL. Any different laws or places I can't carry based on signage? What signs do I look out for? Anyone with experience with Steamboat specifically?

Thanks for any help. :patriot:

Thanks, I've read all ofthis and am mostly concerned about the "no guns" signs that are legal for private property. I was actually hoping to catch someone on here who has been and can attest to the real world application of Steamboat and if the town, ski resorts, public shuttles, etc seem to be anti-gun or not.

Good info above, but there seems to NOT be any good CC forum for Colorado... In my limited experience, I didn't see very many gunbuster signs in Colorado (gunbuster has force of law in CO). But I was in the big cities (Denver, Co Springs, Boulder, Longmont, Ft Collins) and Winter Park, Breck and Aspen.. I've not been to Steamboat in a loooong time.

You may find some additional information here:

No Steamboat data, but: Every year, I am in Denver and Summit County. Open carry is allowed, but in Denver the cops don't like the law. If someone freaks out, you may be arrested for creating a disturbance. I don't open carry in the small towns in the high country for the same reason. Why leave myself open to the inconvenience of demanding my rights? I always open carry on the trails, though, and that's every day. Some people give me a strange look, but that's all.

We went to Steamboat last year for the first time.

What a beautiful place; summer time though.

I wouldn't be cught dead there in the winter.

I can't answer your question about Steamboat specifically. I carried

all day long, concealed. I saw no "No Gun" signs.

Steamboat is a VERY Liberal city like Boulder.

I had several conversations with residents about this and had fun wearing my new (at the time) NRA hat.

Im up in Brighton (outside Denver) right now and flew with my carry weapon. In Denver it is ILLEGAL to open carry but outside city limits, carry away. I can't vouch for it causing mass hysteria though. I have seen NO gun busters signs yet where I've been (but that doesn't mean you won't) but they do have the force of law so be careful. Don't carry in the usual places like court rooms either!

I'm hoping to stay away from them all together.
