Re: Whose got Tattoos???
I have a few. They were done by a very close friend of mine when she was first starting off. They're both in areas that are not openly discernable, so most folks don't know I have them. I got the first when I was 18 (FWIW), and I've never had any regrets about getting them, nor do I ever anticipate having any. They carry significant meaning for me, so they aren't just silly things I did on a whim at all.
I could really care less if someone has tatt's or piercings - I'm very open to folks having a different appearence as it is their body. Do folks judge you based on the way you look? Ohhhh yes they do. Is it right? Nope, but hey, if you're going to get one done in a visible place, understand that this WILL happen and that you can't let it upset you. It's just a fact of life. My Grandpa whom served in the Navy during WWII had multiple tattoo's, most of them on his arms, which made them visible unless he was wearing a long sleeved shirt. Considering that when he had them done tattoos were even more frowned apon, and he still managed to have a very successfull, long and enjoyable life where people respected him and held him in high regard.... I'm not a tad bit concerned about having mine. He wasn't ashamed of them, and neither will I be.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
If your going to throw out Leviticus 19, it does not really apply to this discussion unless you happen to believe we (believers) are still under the old laws. Other parts of that chapter also say that you are not to cut your hair or trim your beard, and to not eat the fruit off a tree you planted for three years.Commander Cody wrote:Leviticus 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.
Nuff said.
Leviticus 19 also tells us to not wear clothes woven of two different types of material, so that would eliminate cotton/poly blend shirts.
I'm not trying to rekindle the biblical debate, but I think it doesn't tell the whole story when we cherry pick one verse and take it totally out of the context that it was written in.

I will admit to considering a zipper over my knee scar, or a choo choo train.canvasbck wrote:I have four tats, tribal art on my right leg, a cobra wrapped around my left leg with his hood spread on the calf, a leather arm band with feathers on my left arm, and a zipper on my right shoulder. The only one with a real "story" is my zipper tattoo. Following my third major shoulder surgery, I had a pretty ugly scar down the back of my shoulder. I got the artist to cover the scar with a zipper, hopefully that will make it easier for the next surgery.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
It was not meant to be that way, just poorly worded on my part..........my apologies for coming off that way. I have edited to avoid the appearance of a personal attack.Commander Cody wrote:Is this a personal attack? Just sayin’….
I do feel that 19:28 can not be taken the way it was in your post without the context of that entire chapter, especially since the verse just prior to it is the one about cutting your hair and trimming your beard.
Perhaps I am a bit sensitive to this one since one of my fellow church members pointed out that verse (out of context) when he learned that I had tats. This was done in a very judgemental way at the time and made me feel as if I had committed some great sin when I didn't even know this verse existed at the time that I got my first tattoo. Now that I have read the entire chapter, it provided some context for me.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
Well that was not nice nor IMHO accurate for the context of the times and the reasons that verse was written. Not like you could have done anything about the tats at that point so the person pointing this out was just being mean. Enjoy your tats if you got em', if you would feel that getting a tat would violate your conscience then for heavens sakes don't get one. MY DH used to want to get on on his back that was like a laundry tag that would say Made in the USA.

Let me add at this time… I have nothing against tattoos on other folks. I was just stating why I would rather they not be on me.

I, along with most people who have tattoos, totally respect that. Your body is a temple......so is mine, I just added some stained glassCommander Cody wrote:Let me add at this time… I have nothing against tattoos on other folks. I was just stating why I would rather they not be on me.
Many who don't have tattoos tend to judge those who do based on "the old laws".

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
I don't recommend the zipper.......the artist did too good a job of covering the scar, now I have to explain it to anyone who looks close enough to recognize that it's a zipper.jimlongley wrote:I will admit to considering a zipper over my knee scar, or a choo choo train.canvasbck wrote:I have four tats, tribal art on my right leg, a cobra wrapped around my left leg with his hood spread on the calf, a leather arm band with feathers on my left arm, and a zipper on my right shoulder. Re: Whose got Tattoos???
Those are so pretty (very colorful)--do the colors stay like that or do they fade like the old tattoos of yesteryear? Sorry if I am showing my ignorance here--my experience with tats was on my grandad's arm from WWII.

I can't answer for schufflerbot, but can say that mine from 3 years ago, have the same vivid colors as they had then.mamabearCali wrote:do the colors stay like that or do they fade like the old tattoos of yesteryear?
That doesn't mean that over time they don't fade, but that one hasn't
