Remington UMC - Remington has been great about it by the way. See this thread for more about the round:

I used to live on Richmond and Post Oak near the Best Buy. I used to go to Top Gun because it was close by. I even took my CHL class there. I always thought they were OK and went there often, until a new employee started working there, this was pre-fire, renovation and re-opening.

Every time I went there for 4-5 times in a row, he was always the guy who waited on me, even when other guys were available, not a problem normally. However, he was always a little rude and arrogant toward me and seemed to get worse every time. :totap: I had never been nothing but nice to him and sometimes did ask him questions about some of the new guns they had for sale. :banghead: He did not seem very knowledgeable and sometimes after my rangetime, if I was seriously interested in something, I would stop by the counter to ask some of the other guys who were able to answer my questions.

I stopped going there until after the reopening after the fire. I had to check it out. That guy was gone and the store improved. I even bought another gun there. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and nice. So were all of the others who waited on me in the 3-4 times Ive been since then. :woohoo

So to here your story make me a little sad. :cryin I thought they turned things around.

Side Note: I always (almost) do my own research and go to the gun shop to test the guy behind the counters knowledge of a particular firearm, unfortunately many times I know way more than they do. When they tell me/confirm what I already know, correct me when I am wrong-it happens, enlighten me to something I didnt know, or are just honest, they usually get my business. Examples, after short conversations with a guy at a gun store and a gun show ,both told tell me what there were better options on the market to consider instead of that what they were selling. In one instance I purchased anyway (CIA WASR 10/63 AK) and the other I took his advice. Try to sell me a bill of goods with some gun store bubba bull and I am out the door. Sometimes, if you know what you want you just put up with the bull and get it anyway because they have the right gun and the right price, and their lack of knowledge makes no difference.

Their guns are way overpriced. Did you get them to come down on your purchases? I've never considered buying there because of their prices, so I don't even know if they negotiate at all. Glock 19's for $600 for example...

Agreed - I've never gotten past just glancing at their prices because they are outrageous on weapons. Of course, they are approaching outrageous on range fees as well.

I walk away to go tell my friend I'm ready to go when he is and they think I have left. When I come back into the store, I hear them talking to their buddies about how some guy was shooting both .40's and .45's and he loaded a .45 in his gun and now it's stuck and he messed his gun up but he claims he didn't do it. They don't even see me standing right there so I again tell them that's not what happened and I leave shortly after.
Complete morons. You should have handed them your .40cal gun and a .45cal round and offered them $1000 challenge if they could chamber it - and if they couldn't they would have to resign instantly to never work in the firearms business ever again even unless it is as a live target.

ETA: If you could drive a .45 into your .40 and set it off you would be picking pieces of pistol out of every nook and cranny of your body for a long time.

:iagree:

It would be nice to be there when someone puts them in their place.

I tried out Top Gun, twice, a long time ago and after the rude attitude I experienced there, I never went back.

As for Memorial Shooting Center, apparently they're incredibly busy where there are 1 to 1 and a half hours of wait time! Which I suppose is a testament to either there quality / affordability or they're the only range in that area.

I prefer Marksman Indoor Range in South Houston even if Top Gun is closest to me. The guys working there are incredibly nice and helpful. I go there all the time so maybe I'll see you guys there!

Memorial Shooting Center near I-10 West and Beltway 8 is a good place. Not as "nice" as Top Gun, but the staff is much more knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. They are about the same price as Top Gun (which ain't cheap btw), but I feel much more comfortable there.

I discovered American Shooting Center (out door) at Westheimer and HW6 a few weeks ago and am hard pressed to go anywhere else now. I love the property, the range, and the staff are good people (from what I can tell up to this point). I will say that the gunsmith told me and I quote, "you can literally POUR oil in EVERY part of the slide of your Glock, it won't hurt it a bit.". I had a strong feeling :mad5 this wasn't true so I got a 2nd opinion from the MSC guys and feel much more confident in them.

I'd say for indoor MSC is the best I've been to. I'd rather shoot out door any day, unless the weather was just downright horrible of course.

ASC's pistol range scares me. Way too many idiots out there, and no barrier walls between shooters.
I've been muzzle swept too many times and haven't returned.

Watch out for the idiot with a jam, who will almost certainly point it left or right while trying (usually unsuccessfully) to clear it. The RO's will jump on them, but they can't be everywhere and it only takes a second or two for it to be very dangerous.

It depends on your definition of "won't hurt it one bit". A Glock will still function, but it may be a mess to clean. Then again, it will still function if you don't ever bother cleaning it, so all in all, the advice is probably correct.

Now if he had been talking about a 1911, I would agree completely. Anything less than using surgical gloves in a completely sterilized environment is likely to "hurt" a 1911.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: My Glock is ported and any extra oil acts as a magnet to attract any powder residue exiting the barrel. :banghead: The more oil in the action the more I have to clean it. The instructions that came with it said about three drops of oil was all that was needed and that in my opinion is absolutely the best advice about Glocks I've ever gotten. :thumbs2:

Maybe the guys behind the counter suffered from the common male dysfunction of thinking everything is bigger...than it really is.

Except in combat, where it has an unassailable history and is widely regarded as the finest defensive pistol of all time. There is a reason it is the most copied handgun design more than a century after it was introduced, and there are more companies making them today than ever before. Delicacy is not that reason.
