Re: Whose got Tattoos???
No tats, and no plans to get one. I've considered getting one, but the fact that I keep changing my mind about what I'd get if I did get one proves to me that I shouldn't.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
Never had any desire to get a tattoo, but if that's what floats your boat. I am not going to do anything on purpose that hurts Besides that when you get my age they look like---------! I have nothing against those that have or want them, just not what I want. I am guessing at what's been posted as estimates for one I could buy more ammo

I saw your post as a spiritual reference supporting your beliefs. I must of missed the debate part?Commander Cody wrote:I did edit my post. Sorry I mentioned it now.carlson1 wrote:Take this back to the topic. Stop the Biblical debate!

You didn't miss much because I deleted most of it. I never asked him to edit his post.Oldgringo wrote:I saw your post as a spiritual reference supporting your beliefs. I have a tattoo of a viking skull on my right shoulder. I got it when I was 18 at Dago's off of I-45 on the North side of Houston.

Can't show you on a family friendly board.
Kidding, don't have any. Came real Close in Jump school over a few 3.2 beers at the end of tower week. It seemed the whole platoon wanted to get jump wings tattooed. I almost pulled the trigger when something rational in my head said, "You'll be sober in the morning, in pain and you still have a few hundred pushups to do on a sore arm." So I didn't and they (tattoos) have long since lost their appeal; not to mention acquiring personal convictions against such things. The aesthetics bother me, not so much in execution as there is some fine ink out there, but scarring a body on purpose just doesn't seem right. Then there is the transient nature of proportion and resolution, I have seen few tattoos that weren't affected by the expansion, lowering or formation of crevasses in the related topography.
All that said, I fell for the "blood wings" lie on graduation day. My left pec still twitches when i think back on it.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
I think I might like a tattoo. The only thing is, I can't think of anything really important to me that I would like to get tattooed.

I was going to respond that I do not have any, but that I had taken other sailors to get tattooed while I was in the Navy, but I would have been lying, I actually have three tattoos, and I even have pictures of them around here somewhere. The last time I had a colonoscopy the doctor removed three polyps and tattooed their locations. I'll see if I can find the pictures if you really want to see them.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
I have no tattoos, and no plans to get one. When I was a kid, like around 16-18, I wanted a tattoo in the worst way. Today, I'm not sure why I thought they were so cool. Personally, I don't care if other people want to tattoo themselves, and some of them are truly interesting to look at. I can appreciate the amount of talent and skill (two different things, and not always appearing in the same person) which it must require to do some of the more artistic ones.
All the same, they are not for me. I kind of see tattooing in the same way as I see piercings. If you want to do it, all the more power to you, but they just aren't for me. Too permanent.
Besides, as others have mentioned, as the canvas deteriorates with age, so does the quality of the tattoo. My canvas is not so young and firm as it used to be, and is really no longer a suitable substrate on which to display someone's artistic talents. I have several life verses from scripture that I might have tattooed on me, but whenever I consider that, my conscience tells me that it would be better to model those verses by how I live my life rather than to have them tattooed on.
But I am fascinated by some of the tattoos I see, and I don't think any less of someone who has tattoos, unless it is an obsession for them; in which case then I think it is unhealthy.

Re: Whose got Tattoos???
I have a few, but they can all be hidden by a long sleeved shirt, which I always wear. No one who casually knows me is aware of them. Once a receptionist where I work commented that I wear long sleeves in the summer and am probably hiding tattoos. I laughed her off but was impressed with her powers of observation as she seemed rather dingy.
I have had mine for a while and I don't have any regrets about getting them. They have very specific meanings to me but I keep them hidden as a lot of folks, especially in professional circles, tend to look very negatively at tattoos. I always discourage younger folks from getting them just to scratch an itch. If someone is mature, knows exactly what they want, and the tattoo will have some meaning to them, I say go for it, but if someone is just getting the random tribal design, I caution them about future regrets. I can't post any pictures of mine as they are highly identifiable and would immediately out me to any friends who might be lurking on this board, and I would rather not have anyone knowing I am carrying unless I choose to share that fact with them.
