Welcome to the Forum. You will enjoy reading, learning, and posting.

I am from Tyler. My three children and two grandchildren still live there. We travel to Tyler at least once a month. I started my career in Law Enforcement at Smith County Sheriff's Dept.

It is good to have you on the forum.

Hey Fatboy!

Tyler guy here also...actually, I live in Smith County, right outside of Whitehouse. Kids go to Whitehouse schools, but my address is Tyler. There are more of us around.

Stick around, read deeply, ask questions. This site helped to ready me for going through the CHL process.

We have a vacation condo in Tyler at the Cascades off of the main loop that we visit at least once a month. There is an indoor gun range right in that same area.....any of you Tyler area folks been there? How's the environment/pricing, etc?

We're used to walking our big Dallas area malls, so it would give us something to do other than the 15 minutes it takes to walk around the Tyler mall. :fire

A "vacation condo" in Tyler, TX? How interesting. I knew that Tyler was possibly the wettest dry city in Texas but I'd somehow never pictured Tyler as a vacation destination. What do you do over here amonst us bumkins for grins?

The range is Lock and Load. It is owned by a local cardiologist. Decent range as long as you do not intend to buy guns or supplies...prices are way jacked up. I have a membership there, which is sort of strange. In order to make the membership pay off, I would have to go shoot more often than I can afford. The payoff for having the membership is that the staff treat you very nicely, targets are cheaper, and you have unlimited time to shoot (unless there is a CHL class, in which case they will kick you off of your lane faster than crud when it comes time for them to qualify). It might be cheaper to just go and pay $20 for an hour of shooting time, but I like the comfort of having the membership...I have no idea what drives me sometimes.

If you want to, let me know when you will be around on a Saturday and I can get you in on the guest pricing($10 for unlimited time)...if I am not tied up doing something else. Always nice to meet someone from the forums. :tiphat:

Ha. It overlooks the Cascades golf course. Very peaceful.....makes for a good getaway on the weekend with only a 2 hour drive each way. And yes, it is definitely a very wet dry city. We always have to remember to stock up on beer and wine in McKinney before we head out there for a weekend. :cheers2:

Unfortunately both the kids are in sports right now so we have games every Saturday for a couple of more weeks before we can get out of town again.

Yeah, I "vacation" in Tyler one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year. They just put us in a hotel for the weekend. they used to put us in the Motel 8 on southeast corner of the loop and 69 (north side of town). now we stay in a nicer hotel on a nicer side of town. Never been to any gun ranges there. and like many, we stop in Terrell every month to hit up the liquor store and get beer.
