ADVICE: 3 Things a New CHL Owner Should Know?
As I anticipate receiving my license at the end of this week, I would really like to hear some advice from the experienced CHL folks. What would you tell your child/spouse if they received their license and asked for advice? If you had to tell them 3 things, what would they be? Thanks!

1. Do not inform a business of their unenforceable sign.
2. The general public is not as observant as you think.
3. Avoid trouble!
4. You had better think hard about where your line is and if someone crosses it do not hesitate or it could be the last thing you ever do.
Sorry, but I thought of the fourth one as I was typing. I'm sure there are more and I eagerly await others' responses.

2. Know your gun and it's (and your) capabilities.
3. Practice self control.

I meant, non-compliant 30.06 sign or something like that.C-dub wrote:1. Do not inform a business of their unenforceable sign.

1. Know the law.
2. Know your capabilities and limitations.
3. No matter who you are, there are no guarantees in a gun fight, so they are best avoided whenever possible.

Thanks, but I've got to get a different one. It was funny two years ago, but not any more. I think I changed it to this one when he was given a Nobel prize.wacolivin wrote:Good stuff and thanks for the response so far... C-dub - nice avatar!

CHL badges aren't cool.
Don't fire a warning shot.
Don't use blanks.

Know the law
Keep a copy of the DPS "laws" in your vehicle
Keep it hidden
Know the laws
If you know the laws, think again.
LEO's don't care if you know the law better than they do.
They will arrest you and deal with the mess later

...make peace with yourself that you are emotionally decided to take a life if that's what it takes to STOP someone...
...carry at all times that it is legal to do so...you don't know when you will or won't need it...
...if you draw your weapon...DON'T TALK TO THE PERP...while you're talking, he can draw and shoot you...or jump you...it's been proven again and again...the time for talking is BEFORE you draw...

==know your firearm WELL ! Know how it works, how it can be unjamed and most of all how to shoot it with a degree of accuracy. I cant even count the number of times at a match seeing someone fumble with their safety, yanking away on a locked trigger. That degree of stress from a buzzer is nothing close to a real-life situation unfording around you. If you fumble with a buzzer's beep prompting you, imagine the real deal.
==as others have said, know what you "line" is-- when you'd produce and fire your weapon. This may sound callous, but decide now who's lives are worth defending with your life-altering decision to fire-- yours, family, friend/neighbor, the guy you see being robbed/attacked across the parking lot.....??

1. It will become a life style issue for the rest of your life so find a comfortable effective method of concealment.
2. Practice at least once a month or more. It's easy to lose the skills.
3. The only real winner of a fight is the person that did not engage. Desculate.

1. Shoot
2. Shovel
3. Shut up
I mean:
1. Know the law.
2. Concealed is concealed.
3. Supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.
