Re: Question - Safe method of transporting weapon
I have had one beer with my dinner on several occasions on not worried about it. In your circumstance I would either keep it concealed and milk that one beer, not go at all, or leave my gun at home that day in anticipation of going. Going out with "the guys" for happy hour is a little different than just having dinner with the family.

The religious fundamentalists have already given their opinion on the evils of alcohol, so I'll simply say if you;re intoxicated you're too impaired to legally carry or drive. By definition. Drunk drivers also kill a lot more innocent people than drunk CHL, so if you lock up the gun, lock up the car. To lock up the gun, Academy has a lockbox for $20 or $30, depending if you want a key lock or a combo lock. You can put your car keys in there too.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

This is exactly correct. The .08 mark is just a given standard and blowing it really makes your case easy to prosecute. This is why lawyers will always advise that you "don't blow" when stopped. If you blow and register that mark, you're going for a ride and you won't be able to win in court. Other than that, if the officer thinks that you are "off" for any reason, he can hook you up and you're in for a very long day.The Annoyed Man wrote: You can have zero impairment. Impairment is a subjective standard, and it is the officer's prerogative to decide if impairment exists. You might have one beer on board, consumed an hour earlier over dinner, and not be impaired. But if you get pulled over and an officer smells that beer on your breath, and he judges that you're impaired, then you're in trouble. If he judges that you're not impaired, then you're not in trouble.
That's my understanding of the law.
The Penal Code defines "Intoxicated as not having normal use of mental or physical faculties by reason of ...(drugs listed) .... OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE INTO THE BODY; or .08 concentration……. Basically, if anything, legal or not, is in your body and it affects the user, it's covered. There are a lot of over the counter cold remedies that can cause drowsiness. They can land you in the soup.
I think the "Zero Tolerance" may be a good idea as a personal credo, especially if that person likes to imbibe. It was mine for many years and it's still a rare time that I break it and then I limit myself to one beer with a meal.
PREACHING MOMENT NOW: Carrying a pistol requires a change in thinking, a change in dress, and it should also require a change in actions and habits. If you are in the habit of hoisting a few and now you’re carrying, something needs to change. OK, not preaching.
But, if you do find yourself with buds and have a few buds, putting the pistol in a locked case, whether you have the combination or not, is all you really have to do. However, please get someone else to drive.

Did you bring enough to share with everyone. I could use a drink after being groped by TSA.G26ster wrote:Hi, I'm the pilot that will be flying you and your family home for Thanksgiving. You don't mind if me, my First officer, and the cabin crew knock down a few beers before we takeoff, do ya?

If you are going to drink take your gun home then meet your friends at a bar and take a cab home
getting picked up for drunkin driving will cost you your
chl for at least 5 years probably 7 years then you have to go to drunk school
have your driver's license suspended, then pay a big fine
Your lawyer will get his share of your worldly wealth also
You will get to changing car insurance companies to a high risk specialist
the total cost will run 15k or more why not spend a few bucks on a cab and avoid all of this crud

And now, if you don't submit to the breathalyzer the officer can draw your blood or take you somewhere to have your blood drawn for a blood alcohol content test. You might get that extra little bit of time for the alcohol to metabolize, but the BAC is much more accurate than the breathalyzer.TDDude wrote: This is exactly correct.
