Couldn't be that bad could it?
Bumping into people there isn't hard to do on the weekends, that's for sure.

Afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is my first post on this forum, so I wanted to introduce myself properly. First, the particulars:
Age 47, Masters degree
Husband for 15 years, father for almost 13 years (son)
Worked as a teacher and school administrator for the last 16 years
Texas house district 61 (Phil King)
Carried with a CWFL for nearly 10 years in my home state of Florida. Moved here 6 weeks ago (wife is from west Texas). Been researching CHL classes/locations.

Usual carry gear:
*Kimber Ultra CDP II in a Crossbreed Supertuck or a custom Little Bear OWB (see avatar), or
*G27 w/Crimson Trace in a Don Hume belt slide.
I also use a SmartCarry for both of the above guns when I'm wearing surf shorts.

I was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders in NE Florida for a little less than 3 years and rode 20+ missions. Served in the U.S. Army from 1982-1987, spending 13 months attached to the 7th I.D. at Ft. Ord, CA, and 3 years at NATO HQ Europe (Heidelberg, FRG). Currently have a nephew in Afghanistan with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children (and I say that with the utmost respect).

I read a lot. My current genre of interest seems to be presidential memoirs, although I have shelves and shelves of books on a variety of subjects. I recently finished memoirs by Nixon, Reagan, and W.. Dick Cheney is probably next. I also collect historic newspapers (mostly 20th -century right now). It's too hot to do much riding right now, so my poor bike sits in the garage. What I need to do is go to the range; at least it's air-conditioned! I suppose I could take the bike to the range. Mmm, now there's a thought!

That's about it, I guess. My apologies for the lengthy introduction. See you on the boards.

One more thought before I sign off: to anyone out there who wears, has worn, or has a loved one who is wearing any of the uniforms of this country, Thank You for your service and your sacrifice. :patriot:

While you didn't mention WHERE in North Texas you are, if IH-35W and Golden Triangle Blvd (about halfway between Fort Worth and Denton) is convenient for you, lemme suggest you look at Shoot Smart, on the west service road of IH-35W between Heritage Trace and Golden Triangle. Nice, cool, indoor range. CHL classes there are $100 and judging by my research before hand, and reading all the CH-class horror stories on various boards, they do a good job.

Are you teaching now? I'm in year 11, looking to finish my Rule-of-80 in a couple of years so I can turn in the keys.

And as one vet to another - welcome home, and thank YOU for your service!

I usually don't do the introductions, preferring to keep a lower profile (primarily lurking - it's safer that way "rlol") . But, since it seems to be the community norm, here....

I'm a relatively new CHL,and just barely managed the age discount (half-price if you're 60 or older) a few days before I did the online application and turned in my package. Live in the Fort Worth area, teach at a local high school, looking to retire in 4 or 5 years, if everything works out.

Served, at various times and in various uniforms, as an AF Security policeman, a combat security guy in Vietnam for a short while, but managed to get my AFSC changed to broadcaster/photojournalist and then had to serve a whole year in-country. Worked for 7th Air force Combat News doing photos and stories just about all over Southeast Asia - got some experience on many different types of weapons systems and I still want that jeep-mounted mini-gun they used at Phan Rang AB for perimeter defense. Got moved to AFRTS, the worldwide radio/television service for GI's after Vietnam and got to see a lot of Europe (primarily based in Turkey) and Asia (based at Clark AB, Philippines). Did 3 years as a Commo Chief with the Texas Army NG, after the AF.

Have been in and around cops most of my adult life - worked for a couple of PD's in communications, never really had a desire to get commissioned, but did a lot of ride-alongs. Spent 25 years as a paramedic, 12 years actually working full time on MICU ambulances, before my back started to bother me, and I found out I could make more money, have weekends and bad weather days off, with 2 1/2 months off in summer by becoming a teacher. Oh, and people don't normally vomit on me at school, and there are very few (though certainly one every now or then) drunks to deal with, either. What's not to love?

Got back into firearms ownership recently, with a Beretta Neos .22 (love that little gun) and now have a 9mm Walther PPS as a carry weapon.

I'm impressed with the friendliness of the forum, as well as the assembled knowledge, here. Nice place to spend some online time!

Greetings! I've already jumped in without reading instructions and put my first post in The Waiting Room. Now that I've read the rules, please accept my apology and allow me to introduce myself properly:

I'm a male, 33
Parts Counterman at an independent auto parts store for seven years now
Single, never married, no kids at this time
I've had my CHL for about a month

My EDC's are: @ work - Ruger LCP, pocket carry in Desantis Nemesis, loaded mag+1 full of Hornady Critical Defense
@ most other places - Glock 27 Gen 4, Tagua open-top pre-formed 'soft' leather ITWB, loaded mag+1 full of Win. PDX1 180gr
....and sometimes both, just because they're both so easy to deal with and there are times when I like having options :thumbs2:

Lookin' forward :txflag:

Please accept my apologies, as well. I have been posting for a while, without the proper introductions. I guess I felt 'right at home' here on the forum and just jumped right into posting.

I am happily married, with 2 children. Daughter, 6, who wants to be a 'Hollywood Star', and a son, 21, who plays college baseball, 1 state North of the Texas line.

Have been self-employed for 20 years and new (again) to CHLing. Took about a 10 year hiatus, when my first license expired. No reason: "I'll renew next week, next month, next year..." Met RAM4171 through work a couple of years ago and he patiently answered my 1,000 questions I had for him and helped steer me back. He also introduced me to this forum.

Currently carry a Ruger LCP front pocket in an Uncle Mike's #1. Also researching holsters for a few other larger caliber 'companions'.

Have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and have learned much in a short time. Looking forward to learning much more.

Thanks for having me. :txflag:

Howdy

I am new to the forum,
60's
just retired
married

hope to learn a lot from this forum & then eventually get my CHL (maybe; whether I get to that point or not, from browsing this site I know there is a lot of value for those that would just keep a handgun in the nightstand or truck under Castle doctrine)
