I never addressed you specifically, Jim. I am not trying to start a war over a matter of differing opinions, you are certainly entitled to your views and I have no evidence that you are disrespectful in your posts or replies. Don't want a war over semantics, either. If one suggests that a person could responding irrationally to unrealistic situations, I deduce that they could be suggesting that the person may be acting 'silly.' I choose to carry at the beach, perhaps you do not, I respect your decision either way. I would think that others would respond with the same respectful ambiguity pertaining to such personal choices.

Jim, I'm not sure why you're taking offense to what I said. There's no subtle put-down there. The stereotype that dogmatic carriers live in "rusty trailer in Idaho surrounded by rolls of barbed wire and 'no trespassing' signs" is trite. I don't have a dog in this hunt as I don't fall into that category, so I don't even know why I'm continuing with this post. However, I do know people who refuse to go to or enter a place where they cannot carry, and they get along just fine. It's their choice, and with it comes sacrifices.

The "statistically safe" argument doesn't stack up. All of us are statistically safe from a shooting. All of us are statistically safe from a shark bite or lightening strike. Heck, all of us are statistically safe from winning the lottery. However, all of these things happen to people regularly who were just as statistically safe as we are.

I wonder how many millions of people visited Luby's restaurants without incident before 23 people lost their lives to one psycho one afternoon in 1991?

That being said, there are just some times that you have to make a choice about carry. That choice is an individual choice, and each person approaches it differently. If I've had a hard week and want to go out to a restaurant with my wife and have a drink, I have a choice. I can choose to forgo the drink and carry, or I can leave my pistol at home. Same goes for the beach or anywhere else where carrying would be a hindrance to an activity. You either don't do the activity, you find a way to do the activity while carrying, or you don't carry.

I thought we should too, Jim. However, there are things that go bump in the night and boogie men/women lurking in the parking lots and fillin' stations as well as behind the non-compliant signs. In fact, evildoers and scofflaws are everywhere. We must be ever vigilant and prepared to defend ourselves at all times and in all places.

Speaking of new threads....I would love to hear from some CHL holders on this forum that have actually invoked thier right to carry in defending themselves or thier families...not the what if's..and the what should haves..and what would YOU do's....but lets hear from some actual folks that HAVE gotten jacked in the parking lot and had to draw..or some other similar scenario..
