Don't get me wrong, I really like the 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) Platform, but as a new Glock owner, I felt it was my duty to lampoon a little bit.
And the cursing after failing to disengage the safety line is based upon personal experience also.

You know what they say...
A 1911 is what you show your friends.
A Glock is what you show your enemies.

Not necessarily. Either will get the job done.SQLGeek wrote:In other words, 1911s for show and Glocks for a pro?
The 1911 is just prettier to look at.

Dat right dere was funny - I dont care who ya are ....SQLGeek wrote:Once you have that 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul), here's your manual of arms:
-Place lint free velvet cloth on shooting bench
-Don lint free, white gloves
-Remove 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) from wood and gold inlaid case lined in velvet
-Lock open the slide of your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul), visually inspect to see that it is unloaded and then whisper lovingly into the ejection port
-Place 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) on velvet cloth, under NO circumstances should it touch the shooting bench itself
-Gaze at 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) lovingly for several seconds, no more than 5 because you don't want to be too prideful
-Remove one $75 magazine from it's own velvet cloth and load with all seven (or maybe eight or nine of you're lucky) rounds of DEADLY MANSTOPPER .45 ACP ammo
-Delicately lift 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) from cloth, insert magazine and drop the slide. Ensure hammer is locked back.
-Point 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) down range and squeeze trigger.
-Curse when you realize you've forgotten to disengage the safety then apologize profusely to your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) for using foul language in it's presence
-Squeeze trigger again and continue firing at target until magazine is empty
-Remove magazine and place on velvet cloth
-Verify your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) is empty
-Whisper praise and thanks into the ejection port
-Repack 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) and your $15,000 worth of accessories.
-Head straight home, do not stop off to eat, fuel up or get a Slurpee.
-Once home, put on "Unchained Melody" on repeat on the HiFi
-Dim the lights appropriately
-Meticulously clean your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) while singing softly to it
-Trade in your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) and buy three Glocks

Re: Anyone have Glock shooting tips?
A Glock 17 was my first Handgun. I've found that making sure you have a proper grip really makes all the difference in the world (For me, the most important is making sure the webbing of your hand is as snugged up to the top of the grip as comfortable). Glock's aren't terribly hard guns to shoot in IMHO - just remember that if you haven't used a striker fired pistol without an external safety, that keeping your finger indexed and OUT of the trigger guard until you are on target is very very VERY VERY important (As it should be with any gun!). I think the notch for the takedown lever on the Glock is in the perfect place to index every time - thats good muscle memory to develop.
Also, as with any handgun, make use of the wheel of misfortune if you are having problems shooting it accurately:
Thanks about all I can think of with the Glock, it's pretty simple. Good Luck!

Re: Anyone have Glock shooting tips?
Like others have said, keep the finger out of the trigger until you are ready to fire. ALWAYS treat the gun as if it were loaded. If you are used to shooting other pistol platforms (Sig, 1911, etc) you might need to adjust to the grip angle which shouldnt take too many rounds. Also, start saving up for your next glock because they are addicting.
Not sure what caliber you are going for, but if you are going 45, try to find a place you can handle and shoot a glock 21 or 30. There is size and feel difference between that caliber and say a 9mm or 40. Personally, i love glocks in 9mm and that is what i have chosen for that particual caliber. Now for a 45, im still trying to figure that one out. Good luck and safe shooting.

But did it still run a full 15 magazines flawlessly after this incident? That is the real question!apostate wrote:http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/glock19.html

I carried (in SuperTuck horsehide) a Colt Combat Commander for a bit...then gave it to my soldier-son (just too much cannon in my pants).USA1 wrote: All joking aside, I will own a Glock one day.

I then moved to a Compact Crusader (carried in the Crossbreed, and later a DeSantis)...and ended up giving that to my youngest (more easily concealed, but still a mini-brick, cocked and locked but not very comfy or accessible).
Then I bought my first Glock 36. After adding the double stainless Glock recoil spring and rod (truly reduces the .45ACP recoil) and with the Pearce extension and Trijicon NS, it is--in my humble esitmation--the perfect CC weapon.
Opinions may vary...

Re: Anyone have Glock shooting tips?
Interesting ... methinks this is similar to my dislike of Kahr polymer-frame guns because of my own previous issues with one. I've since tried a few others - still don't like the gun overall well enough to own one (fits my hands wrong) but subsequent guns have tried from them have alleviated some of my apprehension at the brand in general.G.A. Heath wrote:The only times I have been hit with pieces of a gun were Glock .40S&W rigs that went Kaboom being shot by someone next to me. The first time happened to a shooter using reloads, with no injuries to any party. The second time the fellow was shooting factory +P ammo defensive in a gun that had less than 1000 rounds through it, and he required three stitches in his hand. Additionally don't attach a light to a pre-Gen4 glock chambered in .40S&W and expect a reliable firearm. I briefly owned a Gen4 Model 19 that got a replacement spring from Glock CS, still didn't cycle quite right and had some other "common issues" that Gen4s can have. So after 3 trips to an Glock armorer it seemed to be running right and I sold it with a clear conscious. The "Common issues" phrase are the armorer's words, not mine.
As to the specifics above ..
1. Didn't realize anyone made factory +P .40 S&W ammo - never seen such a thing
2. The Glock .40 attached light problem is another I've never experienced in hundreds of rounds fired with a Streamlight TLR-1 attached to my old Glock 23 Gen 3 - just went bang every time like normal. But I think I've read this problem may have been worse on G22 versions (and more prominently complained about since more LEOs rely on Glock 22 + tac light combo for life-n-death scenarios.

Re: Anyone have Glock shooting tips?
Regarding #1: it wasn't a major name brand round, it was something odd like bison bore or some such in a yellow and blue box. We shot a lot of it that day in a number of different .40 rigs (Glocks, XD/XDms, PX4 Storms, Smiths, ect).A-R wrote: Interesting ... methinks this is similar to my dislike of Kahr polymer-frame guns because of my own previous issues with one. Regarding #2: I believe there has been some documentation of G23s failing to return to battery with lights installed as well. If one must carry a .40 cal Glock with a light they need to ensure that they have good magazine springs, and hope that the spring doesn't decide to get a little weak in a life and death situation.

Re: Anyone have Glock shooting tips?
I keep hearing people talk about .40 S&W failures in Glocks. All I can say is that I stopped counting after 7000 rounds. My Glock 27 third gen has never jammed or KB! I have had bad primers on ammo but never a jam or failure to feed. Most or all KBs are caused from bullets seated wrong, reloads, people messing up hand loads or running stuff like Buffalo bore +P rated for barrels that are supported only (hence don’t run it through your factory Glock barrel). Also in my Glock 20 I had Blazer aluminum 200 grain cause major problems but I have never had a round jam in 10mm brass. I have put over 5000 rounds of 10mm down range as well. My S&W revolver had a light primer strike problem that the factory corrected promptly; my S&W third gen semi auto jams every 100-150 rounds like clock work (after it starts to get a little dirty it jams up). My Ruger P-95 is ammo picky with hollowpoints. After 5000+ rounds in my Ruger SP-101 it finally binded up a spring!
If I had a life threatening situation I would grab my Glocks or my Ruger SP-101 (if not close to my Remington pump action).
Order of my personal experience in reliability with my current hand guns.
1. Glock 27
2. Glock 20
3. Ruger SP-101
4. S&W Bodyguard
5. S&W third gen 908
6. Ruger P-95
Like I said just my personal experience!
