Are you wanting to send rounds downrange from a Glock pistol or at a Glock pistol?? Due to ricochet concerns, I would not recommend the latter.

Let's see...Striker-fired, no external safety semi-automatic general rules or tips:

-Assess potential target to determine that it is something you don't mind destroying.
-Assess area in front of and also beyond potential target to see that it meets the same criteria.
-Load magazine with proper ammunition for that firearm, if one is not already loaded.
-Pick up pistol by the grip frame, being careful to "index" the trigger finger outside the trigger guard on the side of the frame.
-Pull slide to rear with off hand, and inspect the chamber to determine whether a round is chambered.
-Insert loaded magazine firmly in bottom of grip frame if one is not already there.
-Pull slide fully to rear with off hand and release to chamber a round from the magazine if a round is not already in the chamber.
-Reassess target and areas fore and aft of target to ensure that it is still safe to shoot.
-Establish sight picture of front sight post inside rear sight notch with the tops of the front and rear sights level, keeping front sight post in focus. Then align this sight picture with the target.
-Move trigger finger from side of frame to face of trigger.
-Gently press trigger until pistol fires.

Depending on the situation, the next steps vary. Always, keep the trigger finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard except when you 1)have your sights on a target you don't mind destroying, and 2)are ready to fire on that target. These are general rules of firearms safety, and apply as well to Glock pistols as to any other. All internal safeties of the Glock are defeated by simply pulling the trigger.

BTW, I shoot M&P pistols without external safeties, which essentially have the same user interface.

Speedsix has right idea. Concentrate on front sight and slowly squeeze the trigger.

Simple.

Durable.

Plenty of other issues with your mechanics that could be causing you to miss with any handgun ... grip, stance, dominant eye, finger-to-trigger alignment, yanking the trigger instead of squeezing it, etc.

Only thing about a Glock specifically could be if the grip itself simply doesnt fit YOUR particular hand well enough.

A lot of people think the 40 recoil is excessive for what the cartridge does. In between 45 and 9 in geometry but it snaps unlike either of the previous. I use 180 gr in mine but they're hard to find as practice ammo.

Gen 4 switched extractors on us. I've read about it on some other forums and there seem to be issues that are solved by switching extractors. I've read enough to convince me to hold off on buying one until glock gets it sorted out and I'm sure they will.

Care to elaborate? I carried & shot Glock .40 variants for 13 years without incident and now have a Gen 4 9pm Glock with no issues so far.

The only times I have been hit with pieces of a gun were Glock .40S&W rigs that went Kaboom being shot by someone next to me. The first time happened to a shooter using reloads, with no injuries to any party. The second time the fellow was shooting factory +P ammo defensive in a gun that had less than 1000 rounds through it, and he required three stitches in his hand. Additionally don't attach a light to a pre-Gen4 glock chambered in .40S&W and expect a reliable firearm. I briefly owned a Gen4 Model 19 that got a replacement spring from Glock CS, still didn't cycle quite right and had some other "common issues" that Gen4s can have. So after 3 trips to an Glock armorer it seemed to be running right and I sold it with a clear conscious. The "Common issues" phrase are the armorer's words, not mine.

-Place lint free velvet cloth on shooting bench
-Don lint free, white gloves
-Remove 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) from wood and gold inlaid case lined in velvet
-Lock open the slide of your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul), visually inspect to see that it is unloaded and then whisper lovingly into the ejection port
-Place 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) on velvet cloth, under NO circumstances should it touch the shooting bench itself
-Gaze at 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) lovingly for several seconds, no more than 5 because you don't want to be too prideful
-Remove one $75 magazine from it's own velvet cloth and load with all seven (or maybe eight or nine of you're lucky) rounds of DEADLY MANSTOPPER .45 ACP ammo
-Delicately lift 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) from cloth, insert magazine and drop the slide. Ensure hammer is locked back.
-Point 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) down range and squeeze trigger.
-Curse when you realize you've forgotten to disengage the safety then apologize profusely to your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) for using foul language in it's presence
-Squeeze trigger again and continue firing at target until magazine is empty
-Remove magazine and place on velvet cloth
-Verify your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) is empty
-Whisper praise and thanks into the ejection port
-Repack 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) and your $15,000 worth of accessories.
-Head straight home, do not stop off to eat, fuel up or get a Slurpee.
-Once home, put on "Unchained Melody" on repeat on the HiFi
-Dim the lights appropriately
-Meticulously clean your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) while singing softly to it

-Trade in your 1911 (Thank you JMB and may God rest your soul) and buy three Glocks

The 9mm Glock Gen 4s have had some issues with the recoil spring feeding lighter FMJ loads. They've put out a couple of replacement recoil springs to remedy the issue. Knowing that full well, I went ahead and picked up a Gen4 G19 this last weekend. I'm optimistic they've had time to work these things out.
