What kind of finish do I need?

Been doing some fishing on a public pier and catching some nice fish.I really like this spot but the othere day wife was working late so I headed to the peir I had been there about 45 mins and a knife fight broke out over lines getting tangled.Here is my question I dont want to carry my nice shooting irons around the salt water what is a good finish for a small revolver that I can carryaround the salt water?

Or just a stock Glock ... brand new or a 10-year-old LE trade in wouldn't make much difference for your purposes.

Yep, Glock. Preferably a Glock 17 with Maritime Spring Cups installed so you can "safely" fire it underwater if you have to.

Glock finish has proven history and has been durable on our 23 and 30




No offense but the Glock trigger has nothing to do with people shooting themselves in the leg... lack of gun safety rules does

Keep your finger off the trigger unless you intend to use it and a Glock wont bang any more than a single action with a manual safety engaged. I own, carry, and shoot glocks and a 1911 commander (which I carry in the ready position - safety engaged). I do not find one more safe than the other. I prefer and appreciate the glock safe action because I follow a very simple rule - keep my finger off the trigger until I am ready to use it.

Case in point - recent guy who shot himself in the leg using a 1911 with a serpa holster... it had a manual safety... and it was disengaged by accident during the draw. Of course this alone did not cause the nd - he also pulled the trigger on said 1911 and shot himself in the leg. Thank God he was not injured worse, but he admited his wrong doings I am not just shooting from the hip (pun very much intended lol).

not an argument for or against glocks - just wanting to clear that up

Ummm lets see - - - salt water - - - gun - - - rust - - - sounds like a job for STAINLESS STEEL MAN!

Seriously, stainless shrugs off the effects of salt water nicely. S&W, Ruger, and Taurus all make SS revolvers. As long as you aren't getting into the water with the gun any finish should do as long as you care for it properly after your fishing trip. Don't forget the springs and internal parts can rust too.

Thanks guys,looking more towards a revolver that i can put in a pocket holster and not have to worry about wind or casting giving me away .Been looking at the ruger lcr 38 it is a polymer frame.ANY THOUGHTS? Also will be carrying it for quick trips to the store or any place i dont feel like holstering up my carry 45. Stainless would be my first choice but not as light as polymer.ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT....................BEST OF ALL I GET A NEW TOY!!!!!!

S&W Model 640....... Stainless Steel, .357 Magnum, 2-1/8" barrel snubbie, 5 rounds, "hammerless", will fit in your pocket (if you're wearing suspenders to support the weight). Similarly, a Ruger SP101 snubbie in .357 will fit the same bill, although it may be a tad heavier.

I own a 640, and if having a revolver were essential for that purpose, that's likely the one I'd use. However, my Kahr PM9 is smaller, lighter, higher capacity, has a stainless steel slide and polymer frame, and is rated for +P 9mm, and that's what I'd really carry.

Also, remember that a gun's internals might not be stainless steel, and so even though the rest of the gun may be, you'll still need to maintain the gun and make sure that the internals are well lubricated. Plus, given enough exposure, stainless steel will rust. It just takes more "effort" on the part of Mother Nature to do it. So whatever gun you pick, don't neglect proper maintenance.

Agreed, put it in a good pocket holster AND don't carry anything else in that pocket. About 10 years ago a Claiborne county TN sheriff learned that the hard way when he shot himself in the leg while trying to pull his keys out of the same pocket he was carrying an unholstered baby Glock. Same thing would have probably happened if he had been carrying a J frame.

Oh, as to the finish, I usually carry a blue steel revolver and never have a rust problem. I just keep it polished with a good anti-rust product. In my case, Breakfree CPL

Thanks yall, well I went with the bodyguard 38sp smith & wesson, picked it up today its light and fits good in my shorts pocket.Also was on the peir saturday and a game warden and a leo was checking coolers and licenses. I told him I have a chl and he asked me if I was carrying I said no he told me that I probably should be out here and moved on.
