DENVER -- Police are trying to identify a gang of men who are beating couples with baseball bats and robbing them in downtown Denver.

{snip}

Two men wielding baseball bats hit the man and woman in the head, "causing major bruising and swelling," the report said. Then a robber grabbed the woman's purse.
THIS is why I carry a gun! A gun beats a bat, every time, if deployed in time. The only way to reasonably ensure that it will be deployed in time is to have it on my person at all times.

Well, probably they didn't get their unicorn and rainbow soup for lunch... maybe they need counseling, and softer beds and lacy pillows and they'll be nicer then.

Predators abound. They will target victims and evidently find weapons.
Suspect once these guys rob enough victims they will use proceeds to buy will guns.

IIRC, open carry is legal in Colorado... except for Denver. Phew! Good thing, too - or it might be dangerous there.

Perhaps if only they outlawed bats, then it would be safe.

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

... and aimed correctly so that the BG ceases their attack immediately, and positioned so that it won't hit the bat first... I doubt a bullet would have much energy left after going through 3" of solid hardwood.

This one would be an interesting test for the Box o' Truth. I would think that the bullet's kinetic energy would drive the bat back and probably out of the attacker's hands, especially if it was an aluminum bat. I think it would also pretty much destroy a wooden bat. Thinking along the lines of using self-defense quality ammo >= 9mm.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

That would be something interesting to test... for science! :fire

I don't -- bullets are only effective because they focus all that kinetic energy into a small area -- but I'm also not volunteering to be the test dummy.

Yep. That wooden bat would go from being a big club, to being a slightly smaller not-quite-as-big club with large spiky splinters on one end.

Just outlaw assault and battery -- that will fix things right up.
