Mike Beard, the CEO of The First National Bank in McGregor, said he thinks the law will help employees feel safer at work.

After he and his family were held hostage he changed the bank's policy and allowed CHL holders to bring their weapons to work.

"Because our employees are subject to not only bank robbery but they're subject to things that happened to me because I was held hostage in my home as opposed to in the bank so if anybody was interested we wanted to make it available," Beard said.

Beard also paid for several of his employees to become CHL certified.

If you read to the end of the story it states that weapons are not permitted in the parking lots of schools or other places were guns are not allowed.

I and someone else. in comments, corrected the last sentence in the story where she talked about schools, but I wasn't going to get into details, employer policies firing employees/versus criminal offenses etc

I was telling some friends about this earlier this evening...and acutally heard the comment, "I'd feel better about a school that had armed teachers."

It's just SW of Waco. I know for a fact it's not the first bank in Waco to pay for employees CHL

I'm compleatly undecided if telling the press is a good idea.

I don't think bad guys watch the news,

:iagree: Putting on news could be risky ... Glad Chappell Hill bank etc have had no problems, but I'm guessing due to several other banks getting robbed (other articles on that site) , that bank which hadn't been, wanted to make "other banks" appear on the News as better places for criminals to go/ less risky for criminals by advertising "THIS isn't a "criminal safety zone". (Dunno that I'd show where I keep/store it like that 1 bank guy did)

It's amazing how being held hostage became such an enlightening experience for this manger. Great step forward for his bank. If I was a crimminal I would pick on other banks.

Yeah, this guy is light-years ahead of many other people who are victimized by criminals. Take Fran Drescher for example (the lady who played The Nanny). Armed men came into her house and had their way with everybody, and after that she went all anti-gun.

I find the comparison to schools above interesting. In Israel, when the terrorists hit their schools with gunfire they armed all of the school employees. In the states, they look for excuses to disarm more people after such an incident.

As my 4-year-old son would say, some people are 'broken head people' whose mothers didn't know how to hold them when they were babies. Not much we can do to convince such :(

As a bank manager for a mid-sized bank, I must say that I am jealous of those employees.
