It's a good reminder that just because you are on your property doesn't mean you are safe, my heart goes out to the family and friends.

This should remind us all to remain in condition yellow. I was recently out watering my lawn, and became so distracted that I failed to notice someone walking down my sidewalk. He actually got extremely close to me before I saw him, which surprised me because I consider myself pretty careful in watching my surroundings. Now, I try to be more careful to remain in condition yellow, even while in my own yard.

Another stunning example that you never know when... so carry and stay aware of all around you.

I pray for justice (such as society can mete out), as well as comfort and closure for the family and friends.

A couple of things stand out about this shooting; 1. The guy was part of the volunteer neighborhood crime watch. 2. He was watering his yard at 3AM. 3. He is in one of the worst, if not the worst, areas of Houston.

Due to #1, it could be that he reported someone for something and this was revenge for getting someone in trouble with the law.

You can tell by the video that he KNEW he was in a very high crime area as the front of his house resembles a solitary confinement cell in a federal prison. Why you would bar your house up like that, and then carelessly leave yourself open to attack by being in your yard without personal protection is beyond me.

I hope they catch the people responsible for this senseless killing.

This seemed strange to me also. However, in the drought we are having, this is not a bad time to water the lawn.

We are out in the sticks and I never go out at night without some sort of hardware. Of course I am more worried about wildlife versus BGs.
