Thanks Gents. Looks like 1.8% of the state population of 25,145,561. I wonder how we measure up with the other carry states?

And of those 1.8%, I'd bet nowhere near 50% of them carry daily. I know 2 good friends that both have their CHLs as well. Neither of them carry very often, if ever!

that's sad...even if you gave it another .1 or .2% for those with Utah or other state licenses and said 2% that's still fewer people with CHLs than are homeschooling, (last I read that number is between 2 and 3%). Texas should be much higher than that.

Well, considering the adult population, i.e. 18 and older, the percentage increases a little to 2.5%. Still low.

An elderly grandma neighbor of mine carries daily everywhere... surprised me, but she does. as does her son and hubby.

All my cousins/pastors etc do ... what really surprised me is a retired LEO at my church with a chl doesn't .... but his girlfriend does, and they are usually together

Well, some folks, myself included, are still hampered by certain laws/institutional rules from carrying as much as we would like to do. While the passage of the parking lot bill will undoubtedly help, there are those of us who attend "institutes of higher learning" who got thrown under the bus due to the politically motivated jaw-jacking of THAT DUDE FROM VIRGINIA (sorry, couldn't help myself). Also, a lot of CHLers go off to work where they have been unable to take their firearms due to company policies...then, they leave work and go about their errands on the way home...and are the next thing to FORCED to be disarmed, even though they went to the trouble to do everything right and get their CHL. Kudos to the legislature and Gov. Perry, and hats off to the NRA/TSRA and all the fine folks that got that one fixed. Next time, "campus carry" (even though I will be done by then, I'll still do what I can...otherwise another group of folks will be in the same boat as me down the road). Hopefully those percentages will continue to climb...

The actual number of CHLs in Texas of 461,724 might seem low on a per capita basis but it may be one of the largest political groups in Texas other than churches or the actual political parties. For example, there are about 79,200 Texas Realtors. There are roughly 320,000 school teachers and 73,000 cops. This is to say that CHL people, as a group, have some amazing political clout, but I don't think they use it to their best advantage. If I had to run for statewide political office, I’d make sure I had the CHL group behind me.
