How does TSA have authority to “shut down the airports”? :headscratch

Most airports are owned by the cities or counties and the FAA controls air traffic. I have been told on good authority that the FAA cannot even “shut down” an airport. :nono:
God Bless America, and please hurry.

I don't think they actually have the authority but as with more and more Fed Agencies, they have it because they said they did

Well it might still be called. Tell Perry that you want it in the special session.

Well looks like the bill has support both in the house and senate again. Looks like it might make it into special session after all.

I saw push it through as a dare to the TSA, I really doubt they would try to shut down air travel but I would really like to see them try. Let them get the egg on their face for a change.

It's back on the agenda for the special session. I hope they don't blink this time.

The TSA can't "shut down" the airport, per se. They can, however, refuse to screen passengers and cargo. CFR Title 14, Part 121.538, says that the airlines have to follow the rules in 49 CFR Chapter XII. 49 CFR, Part 1544, lays out the airport security screening regulations. What it comes down to is that if the TSA refuses to screen passengers they have, in effect, shut down the airport.

It wouldn't stop people from traveling by air. It would just stop them from traveling by airline.

Excellent! I can finally change the script that everyone in Austin has been hearing from me!

Instead of "will you bug Perry to put it on the agenda?", now it's "be sure to vote for it if you want my continued support!"
"I don't know how that would ever be useful, but I want two!"

I'm not sure. The story is the headline on Drudge this morning and there obviously was a lot of pressure on Perry to include the bill in the special session. That it has made it this far means that it is very visible to a large enough group of people. I'm not sure that sham votes are going to work for those folks.

That said, the man who confronted Perry at a book signing, according to Drudge, is an 9/11 Truther. That gives this matter a weird combination of supporters since the local Tea Parties have been all over it, too.
