the thing that takes so long is the background check. If the FBI does one why then does the DPS have to do one? dont they share the same information?

I think that it's ridiculous that you have to wait up to six weeks just to receive a regular drivers license in Texas. When I lived in Missouri, you walked out with it in your hand.

As it was explained to me by my neighborhood DPS officer (he lives a few doors down), because Texas is a border state DPS does more to verify your information before sending your plastic.

At about $300 for the class and license, not even to mention the cost of the ammo, it's already too expensive. But, it is better than where I came from...I can actually get a CHL here.
