Lesson Learned.....Painfully
So I carried to church tonight with the folks, then out to eat. But I learned tonight to be very aware of the armrests at the church, or other stadium type seating. When I went to sit down when we first arrived, the armrest caught the bottom side of my rig ("The Answer" holster/M&Pc), and the whole thing jammed up in my side bruising my ribs and actually drawing a small amount of blood. So I say, lesson learned. A rig might give some protection from a straight from the side type of attack from a counter or something, but dang if i didn't flop down with enough force to cause a permanent and instant "Don't do that again" in my mind. So now I have a small bruise, which doesn't happen easily to me, and about a 1/8th inch cut to remind me. Good thing I didn't have a hammer style sidearm on me.
Any other noob accidents experienced out there to be aware of?

Watch out for those "side huggers." One of the gals at a local business my b'loved and I frequent heard about my wife's recent cancer diagnosis. I saw her at the store on Thursday, and she rushed out from behind the counter to greet me and offer a "big side hug." Before you could say, "mother may I" she had a hand around the grip of my Glock!
All I could think to say was, "Eh, pager."

Beware of any chair with wooden arms!
The absolute worst are the ones where the arms & back blend to form a "U" shape.

I haven't had that issues, at least not with my IWB holster. I have had armrest issues when carrying OWB though. My biggest issue is accidentally hitting the gun against door frames, chairs, etc as I walk and making a loud crash. But that again is mostly with my OWB holster. The Supertuck keeps it pressed up against me enough that it's usually not a problem.

I think my typical expression runs off the "huggers"
I've gotten hung up on a couple of chairs, but no personal damage yet. My biggest issue is getting people to remember that I need the lefty chair when we go out to eat

Yeah, I'm not a big hugger, and my dear ol mother is usually the only one that tries and succeeds. Otherwise I've already made a natural reaction of a left hand hug/pat with the right arm guarding the hip as inconspicuous as possible. I'm naturally self-guarding and wary of others already, so those who know me aren't too thrown off by my avoiding unneccessary body contact. I'm not sure how many other strange ways there might be to hurt yourself by the mere presence of the rig being there, but here's to not finding out

...I'm a hugger, but carrying from 10 to 2 oclock, unless I get in a full body press, no problem...only happened once and my friend's cute sister asked me if I was really THAT glad to see her....and once one of my favorite waitressess at WH passed by me and patted me on the tummy...right on my P90...she never even flinched...she knew I carried heavy already...

At McDonalds last week a kid about 12 yrs old in line ahead of me spun around without looking and whacked the .45 with his elbow pretty hard. He didn't cry but his mother looked at me like I had hit him or somethin. I couldn't think of anything to say so I just shut up.

You eat at Waffle House often enough to have a favorite waitress?speedsix wrote:...I'm a hugger, but carrying from 10 to 2 oclock, unless I get in a full body press, no problem...only happened once and my friend's cute sister asked me if I was really THAT glad to see her....and once one of my favorite waitressess at WH passed by me and patted me on the tummy...right on my P90...she never even flinched...she knew I carried heavy already...

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

I used to try to go through all that "rig-a-maroll" but I stopped. I don't really care anymore. Anyone who knows me well enough to give a hug knows I'm a gun nut. Besides, between the Blackberry, leatherman, spare mag, and of course the Beretta, there's not much room left to not grab onto something.bigmoney wrote:Yeah, I'm not a big hugger, and my dear ol mother is usually the only one that tries and succeeds. It's just like printing; I don't worry about it any more. I wear earth toned patterned shirts that fit loose and keep on rollin.
