Sorry if I cam on too strong. That wasn't my intent.

Even if you're alone, his harming or killing you is still going to have a profound impact on your family. One could easily argue that you're still protecting them, even if it's not from physical injury.

I agree that killing someone would be very very hard to deal with. Killing them inside your home would only make it worse. If the miscreant continued attempting to gain entry even after he knows he's been seen (as was apparently the case), he is not likely to back down after he gets inside.

I'm really trying to work up some compassion for the slain thug... er... teen, and his enabler... er... mom.

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

Nope, it's just not working. Actions have consequences, and sometimes those consequences are permantent.

Good on the homeowner for taking care of business and saing the tax payer untold thousands of dollars. The only person I feel sorry for here is the homeowner, who will have to come to terms with killing that little reprobate.

The headline was clearly meant to provoke rather than report, that is plain to see. The story itself is something for us to reflect on, not to celebrate.

Carrying a concealed handgun is an awesome responsibilty. Mind that.

If you got a CHL to put you one step closer to an encounter where you might get to shoot someone, you got a CHL for the wrong reason. This is a public forum. Our attitudes and moral compasses are here for the world to judge. Mind that.

I will joke and josh around about holsters, calibers, concealment methods, my gun is better than yours (and it is) :thumbs2: all day long. But, I hold those of us that hold a CHL to a higher standard when it comes to learning about an incident like this.

Let us not pump our collective fists in the air when someone has to do the unthinkable. Otherwise we end up looking like those dancing in the streets overseas when a roadside bomb goes off.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

The path to this encounter was obviously a long time coming... It is a sad thing that the young man felt he was so deserving that he felt he needed to be in this mans home with complete disregard for the homeowners rights and/or the law... Had he known there were consequences prior to this encounter he may have been the "good boy" his mother portrayed him to be... I bet (as usual) he was "Just getting his life on track!"

My prayers go out to the the homeowner for what he will have to endure because of this young mans actions. I only hope the families of both parties can find peace. This was senseless and completely unnecessary!

I know it would be a bit "off-topic"...but please explain this.

I am curious...your point of view.
Perhaps a blanket statement here was too much, some do "deserve" to die some die by the choices they make. I do not think this kid deserved to die but at the same time he is responsible for his actions and his fate was sealed when he tried to break into someones house.

I agree. Its a shame the way it turned out....but he took a big risk.

This may sound cold or callous, but this doesn't bother me one bit.

Now, I am not celebrating his death, but am I going to worry or shed a tear? Feel a bit if sympathy? Nope...In my opinion, he "got his". My only hope / care is that the homeowner is ok. That's a traumatic experience, and I am sure he's replaying it over and over.

I have a special hatred for thieves, miscreants, and bad people.

I pray I am never put in this situation.

Going to see an underage girl at her father's house by breaking in the back window with a crowbar? This definitely falls into the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" category.

A literal interpretation of "mama's" statement is "I want money from someone" It's the same worn out old entitlement issue. Hand out has been demanded. No wonder the punk turned out the way he did.

To answer the earlier question "What would you have done?"

Yes, I would have shot through the glass. No, I would not have waited for the punk to actually make entry. No, I would not enjoy doing what had to be done.

The shot did not come until the second raising of the blinds, and the hardened criminal, regardless of age, was still persisting in his effort to enter the house even after knowing that the home was occupied. He obviously felt the man was no match for him and his crowbar and that he could get in, take the man out, grab the goodies and be gone before the cops actually showed up. Blame momma, blame his daddy (if you could find him), blame society, it was still the punk's own free will to do bad things, and he paid the price. How many times had he done this before and gotten away with it? Many thousands of others (me included) grew up in an unhappy house and in poverty. It does not have to follow into adulthood, not in this country. It was the punk's choice to be what he turned out to be. Good riddance.

Tragic event. The "kid" was allegedly a "bad apple". Parents always deny anything's wrong with their "star".

Outside the house? Not a threat, unless the unsub is firing at you/yours. Once inside the house via B&E...another thing.

Jacqueline Morris doesn’t believe her son had to die. She wants justice for him.
Justice was already served.

let's make a choice, would you rather live with the fact that you killed a would be robber not knowing what he will do to your family or try to live with the fact that you weren't able to protect them from evil? if you're trying to break in my house with a crowbar, i'm not going to ask if you're a good kid and if you play football.

I agree. I would take no joy in shooting a rabid dog, but I wouldn't mourn it either.

The mom's demand for justice reminds me of an old saying.

1st statement. There are people out there so bad(evil) that they very much deserve to be removed from existence.
One that fit that profile was just recently removed in Pakistan.

No normal child gets in fights every day?

Depends on whether or not you were raised in a "nice" neighborhood or South Dallas or off of South Main or Telephone Road in Houston or any other similar neighborhoods. There fighting is a way of life.

I attended 17 different schools in 7 years. I was always the new kid. I had a lot of fights. It happens.

Stop and think some more.
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

Perhaps you should stop and read some more, I made a second post where I clarified my point. And just because fights always happen does not make it right or "normal". The personal attack was unnecessary.
