Falling US Crime Rate Befuddles Experts

#1

Post by TARX »

What would the forum see as the reason for the falling crime rate in spite of the fact there appears to be more and more reasons for the crime rate to be going up? Is it because more and more of us are carrying? I'd like to believe that, but frankly and instinctly I just don't. My apology if this article has been posted before.

Lots of reasons.

Some of the better ones:

We are actually putting people in jail!

Gangbangers are slowly killing one another off! ;-)
Spartans ask not how many, but where!

It's a combination of things:

1. More awareness by citizens that they need to take action to protect themselves and to assist the police
2. Lots more people buying and using weapons for personal defense
3. More really bad guys spending more time in jail (probably the biggest factor)

The reason the "experts" are stumped is because their basic assumption that when people get short of money they turn to crime is simply not true. The fact is, for the most part, criminals (even rich ones) will always turn to crime and good citizens will not, regardless of the economic circumstances.

I can't wait for Kalifornia to release the 32,000 prisoners that the US Supreme Court has mandated. That should help immensely.

Possibly bad economic times make people more conservative. Saw a study once which tracked the length of women's skirts woth the economey and the bad times the longer skirts went.
