I found nothing great, and not much even worthwhile in that article. It was just his "Countdown" schtick in written form. Glad he's relegated to blogging now so I don't have to catch a glimpse of him as I skip past MSNBC while flipping channels.loadedliberal wrote:Like him or not Keith Olbermann has a great article about this up on his site.

I am slightly disappointed he won't be subjected to the punishment that comedian Ron White dreamed up ... involved Federal prison, peanut butter, and other things not appropriate for 9-year-old daughters' ears (nor their mothers' ears for that matter)

Yes, and I commend him.loadedliberal wrote:...in 2008 Obama made a promise to make it a priority to capture UBL, he kept his promise.
I found it interesting in the article that I linked that it said that there was a safer way of taking him out by air strikes, but Obama specifically wanted a higher risk attack that put our most elite soldiers in hand-to-hand combat with Usama (I'm changing to that spelling to avoid sounding like a Mother Goose type tongue-twister) because Obama wanted the body to be able to prove it was Usama. I'm following the logic up to here as I can understand why that could be important. It almost blew up in his face with the SEALs losing their transportation out and having to stay in the compound with some 15-20 angry and grieving women and children. But everyone said that having his body to prove it was the real deal would be important for the Arab world, so OK. But then they dump him overboard within 12 hours before anyone can verify the body? I'm not starting a conspiracy or thinking that it wasn't Usama. Al Qaeda would know and would have him all over the news within hours if it wasn't true. But it just isn't consistent and doesn't make sense to authorize a high-risk attack with massive intercountry political implications (Pakistan is now strongly saying they were informed and involved in order to not look like fools and to minimize backlash) in order to be able to show off his body, then to dump his body where no one can recover it before showing it off. Huh?
Also very interesting to me is the tweets by the Pakistani guy. He hears a helicopter and is told it isn't Pakistani, so he immediately assumes it is Taliban and doesn't seem at all concerned about that. It's only when the helicopter isn't Pakistani OR Taliban that his suspicions are raised. The place must have been crawling with Taliban for him to make such a casual assumption!

Re: *Breaking* Bin Laden is Dead
Glad to hear it. On a side note, between the lack of a viable challenger with name recognition on the conservative side on the one hand, and Obama's success at getting OBL on the other hand, I am almost resigned to another 4 years of this administration. I don't like it. I think he has presided over the dismantling of the economy and America's leadership role on the world stage. But I think he is going to be almost impossible to beat in 2012. The election was ours (conservatives) to lose, but I am afraid that moment has passed us by.loadedliberal wrote:I would think most here are above the ranting of Alex Jones, in no way do I think he speaks for conservatives or anyone with half a brain. The Annoyed Man wrote:Trying to bludgeon conservatives with the words of a nut burger like Alex Jones is like trying to bludgeon liberals with the words of a nut burger like Cindy Sheehan. OK, boys and girls, a whole string of posts has been removed from this thread. While we realize this is an emotionally charged topic, you can discuss the issue without calling names.

There is a white house briefing going on right now. It seems to me Pakistan had to know where bin laden was for quite a while. How could he live there in such splender and not be noticed?

I hope the OBL video is better quality than the BHO birth certificate.

Congratulations President Obama on bring Bin Laden to justice. Congratulations to all who have served our country. Well done.
Re: *Breaking* Bin Laden is Dead
On a related note, for all the anti-CHL and anti-SB354 folks...in a 40 minute firefight, not ONE report of the Pakistani police showing up.
But more seriously, I am extremely proud of our servicemen and women for an incredible job and for sacrificing so much for all of us. Thanks to all of you!

Don't get me wrong and think I am belittling what our SEALS have accomplished in this strike. But the hoopla to me is over-rated. OBL/UBL is simply one more dead-Terrorist, and another will pop-up to take his place. Let's not make a martyr out of a dirt-bag. The extremists will already be doing that.

Re: *Breaking* Bin Laden is Dead
Hey guys, I was reading these posts and sounds like some of y'all are curious as to some of the events. I'm Navy SWCC, and have been on countless operations with SEAL's, and last night I talked with a buddy of mine who is part of Team 6's sister team.
First, we needed a body for proof because we all know that no body=no death. We used SEALs because they are exceptional operators, rarely unsuccessful, and are one of the few squads we could use on an operation of this proportion. It is possible to have a 40 minute firefight withoutnauthorities being alerted for a couple of reasons : the compound was huge, and the majority of the firefight occurred indoors, also shots being fired is no big deal over there-it's fairly uncommon. Also, Pakistan authorities were let in on the loop the second that SEALs touched down.
Osama was killed for "resisting", with a single head shot. Think what ya want, but I can tell you that any time we went on a mission for a HVT, the orders were usually kill orders. You may think that's ridiculous, but you see what's going on over at Gitmo- we have hundreds of prisoners that we can't do anything with because of political reasons, we don't want to risk Osama stuck in Gitmo for ten years only to be released.
According to my buddy it was a clean, fast op. No casualties on our part, and only one woman was killed-it's common to use women as shields becausenof a myth that Americans won't risk collateral damage to win a firefight. They were wrong, and the woman was apparently killed by the guy who was holding her before he was smoked. Unfortunately, I haven't learned who pulled the trigger on Osama, and most likely I won't find that out. If it were my guess, it wasn't even one of our SEALs. We take CIA with us on these missions, mostly because they have all the intel, and are responsible for identifying the target. Read between the lines.
This is the info I was given.
