Mine was the first rescue mutt the daughter got for me. Couldn't come up with a fitting name for him, so the name of the breed did it. We loved that wart-faced-little-varmit too much. His replacement (mini-schnauzer) is asleep at my side, but 'mini-schnauzer' is kind'a dainty sounding, and a lot of typing for a forum name. Besides, I'd have to change avatars...

Toorop was the name of the character from the book "Babylon Babies.". It was made into the film "Babylon AD" with Vin Diesel. I enjoyed both, the book is much better, so I took the name of the main character.

My given name is John and I rode a Kawasaki Voyager 1200 for several years until I changed to a new Honda Goldwing. Just kept the moniker "VoyagerJohn".

After high school I used to wait tables. When the ticket for the meal printed out it would have the server first name / last initial at the top of the ticket. Mine said "Chris P." and there were other Chris's so I was known as Chris P. Soon the Chris P just turned into Crispy. I'm still good friends with a lot of the waitstaff from way back then. I even married one of them. My wife doesn't call me that anymore but when I see the rest of them they still call me Chrispy.

I'm a programmer. The language I started out with in my first paying job was called Clarion. I used the name for any of my online user names.

When I was about 19 and the web was in its infancy, I worked for Southwestern Bell Internet during the day. On weekends and some nights I also was a DJ. I chose this name based on my given name and my secondary profession at the time. It has stuck for the past 15-ish years :)

Re: What's the Origin of Your User Name?
i'm new here, so i'll contribute some reading material for those wanting to waste time at work
I've been a DJ since 1997. I began spinning records almost immediately after being introduced to electronic music and the 'hobby' took off into a career of sorts. I played countless parties, concerts (called 'raves') and became a small time Houston celebrity for a little while. Having nearly no experience in the world of DJ'ing, I came up with my own moniker (a stage name for DJs) that was pretty cheezy, in retrospect. Once my performances grabbed the attention of some big name DJs from the area, they kind of took me under their wing and showed me the ropes of the performance/entertainment world. First thing that had to go was my terrible moniker and they lovingly dubbed me 'Rick Schuffler.'
Fast forward a few years, one of the DJs who named me created a song that was released on one of his albums... the title of the track was, 'Feed the Schufflerbot' and came from a phrase that was the result of a drunken night of production where someone suggested that (because of my wild head bobbing during one particularly fantastic beat creation session) 'the Schuffler needs to be fed some techno.'
silly as it seems, that's how the 'schufflerbot' came to be and it's been my screen name since.
