Yeah, I should have checked myself before paying, but I'm surprised the employee made the mistake of selling me the wrong ammo for the gun I was buying. Good thing I'm not a total neophyte who would have tried to feed the .380 into the 9mm...... :banghead:
I've accidentally picked up the wrong ammo at Academy because I was in a rush and didn't pay close attention…my mistake. Of course I couldn't take it back to Academy, but I'm fairly certain things would be different at The Arms Room. If you go back and explain what happened, I bet they'll take care of you. They are a family run business and do everything they can to take care of their customers.

I've actually got a .380 so I'll keep it. Next trip to Wally world I'll grab the FIL a hundred box of WWB. Probably cheaper than what the single box of .380 cost anyways.

I went to The Arm's Room last night to help out as a part time RSO because they are staying so busy and it is on the way home from work. The place is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful which I believe comes from the owners, Mary and Bill James, who are just really fine people. Then ventalation system is the best of any indoor range I have been in. I wish them all the best.

Huge thumbs up for this place. Had to wait a bit for a lane to open up, but the range fees are excellent and staff were very friendly. RSOs were attentive without getting in the way. One thing I didn't care for were the grates on the firing line. They are very nice in the sense of not constantly stepping on spent casings, but if you want your brass back then not so much. Guns a bit overpriced, accessories were surprisingly reasonable. Didn't look at ammo. Hours open beats everything around. It was worth the drive from the West side of Pearland. Very well done. I'll be back!

I heard that they have rubber mats you can cover the grates with so you can get your brass. I've heard the owner say something along the lines of "it's your brass, you're free to pick it up". You probably just have to ask for it.

I too frequent the Arms Room and agree with all comments. Nice staff, nice indoor range, rental guns for the range, but pricey.

Also, I've bought all my guns and a lot of ammo from Mr. T's. Roy is a great guy and his gun prices can't be beat. If you are in or near Texas City, be sure to check him out.

That's true, just tell them you want to save your brass and they will give you a mat to cover the grating.

Once while I was there picking up my brass the owner came in and told me to stop chasing my brass, then told me to go to the bucket against the wall and take all I wanted out of it :hurry: . I also saw on their website the listed price per hour is $10.00 I know it was $12.00 per hour so I assume it is a price adjustment.

I was there today but only looked at .45s but as you live in Toxic City you should definately pay Roy a visit at T's Guns and Ammo. I am pretty sure he will beat the best price that The Arms Room have. I certainly recommend either one, but Roy usually has the best price IMHO.

Good luck and I hope you get your firearm soon. :tiphat:
I have stopped by the Arms Room several times since it opened and took my CHL class there. If you know anyone looking to take the course, best price I have found in this area for taking the class and very convenient to be able to shoot and sit in the class all in the same place. They do have Glocks, but they are not the cheapest.

Last week I bought a Glock 19. A friend recommended T's, so I went by there and they were even more expensive than the Arms Room. I don't know if it's because people go in there and haggle, but I was surprised at the sticker prices since a friend told me they were very competitive. I left there and went to Shooter's Corner in Texas City and they were great. Very helpful, best price I found and also gave me what I was looking for on my trade.

One good thing about the Arms Room though, I rented the 19 before I bought it and if you do that, the $10 you paid to rent it can go toward a credit of the purchase if you choose to buy one.

Sorry, one other thing I forgot to mention about The Arms Room. I called the other day because they have some night sights that I have been looking at getting. You can find them a little cheaper online and I asked about installation. If you just bring in the sights, it was $35 to install. If you buy the sights from them, they install them for free. Not sure if that applies to every accessory, but it makes the sights very competitively priced. Especially when you factor in having to pay shipping and waiting for them to come in. I will definitely be going there to get my sights.

Took my CHL class there with the MUCH better half. ONLY thing I didn't like about the place is that once done shooting, you have to take your guns and lock them in your car. NOT the best idea IMO. True they've had some yahoos take their guns out and 'fondle' them in the class. But with all the car break ins in that area, locking guns up in the car is NOT the best idea. It's a recipe for turning a 'bad guy' into an 'armed bad guy'. Won't take long before the hoods realize there are 'targets of opportunity' sitting out there.

I would have to agree with others here. We went and shot with my daughter, father-in-law, and uncle. They did their best to accomodate us with the # of lanes on a very busy afternoon. The RSO also helped my FIL clear a very bad jam and was very courteous the entire time.

Another big thumbs up for The Arms Room.

My wife (the closet Socialist of all people  ) had an incident a few months ago that convinced her she wanted a handgun for HD. I agreed on the condition that we would BOTH get one and get trained. I'm being the "fleet leader" and checking out locations and weapons. On the advice of this thread, checked out TAR (15 minutes from our home), let them sell me a SIG P229 (on friend's recommendation) and took two hours of instruction. Great experience, good intro to the range. Went back two days later on my own and put about 300 rounds through the paper. I plan to head there about twice a week for awhile.

Range has 15 lanes, RSO was attentive but discreet. Comfortable setup. Recommended for newbies like me. Wife and I are talking about getting CHLs. If so, we'll do it there.

From one "Geezer" to another let me say welcome to the "club" of folks taking responsibility for their own protection! :thumbs2:

I would like to encourage you both to get your CHLs ASAP as it makes life so much easier. If you scan the other topics on this board youll find many instances reported where our local law enforcement officers (LEOs) seem to regard CHL holders as "cousins in arms" or at least certified good guys.

You will probably at some point want to go beyond just the basics of how to make holes near the center of paper targets and consider what to do if confronted by several gang bangers intent on separating you and your wallet, car, TV & etc. For this there is probably nothing better than getting involved with the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) http://www.idpa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; There is a chapter that meets at the Arms Room weekly that you might want to look into.

If you would rather start out with something a little less competitive than IDPA you might want to visit the Sunday Shooting League at Best Shot Range in Friendswood. The league is primarily focused on learning safe gun handling in critical defensive situations. It meets every Sunday from 5 to 7 P.M. at Best Shot Range and the cost is $15.00 per person for the two hour session. Each session usually starts with 45 minutes to an hour of live fire gun handling drills in normal light or low light conditions, with and without flashlights. Then an hour to hour and a half is spent shooting one or two scenearios involving multiple targets with obsticals that require quick and accurate target identification and shooter movement through or around the obsticals. The emhasis is not on time but on shot placement and personal safety. Only one person at a time shoots a given scenario while the others observe and learn until their turn. There are usually around ten or twelve people attending on any given Sunday.

The experience level of the participants ranges from LEOs and CHL instructors to brand new gun owners like yourselves. Everybody learns from everyone else guided by our very capable instructor. For more info you can PM our instructor, fm2, on this board.

Thanks Gerry. My wife was raised in Friendswood - a former "Wranglerette" (I'm a former Yankee - got here as fast as I could... :txflag: ). I've already started the paperwork for my CHL, it still remains to be seen how my wife will feel handling a gun. It will probably be a few months before I help her choose one and she gives the range a whirl. We'll wait until then before we start her paperwork -if all goes well we'll take the course together. Then we can see about the kind of training you mentioned. I would certainly like to do it, but I'm hoping it's something that she and I can do together. We'll just have to see how things work out.

Hi GeezerGas,

You'll be happy to know that there are two husband an wife pairs that regularly attend the Sunday Shooting League at Best Shot Range. One couple consists of a husband who is fairly experienced and his wife who is a newbe and the other consists of an experienced pair. You all would fit right in.

Also Matt Fleming who owns Best Shot Range offers several levels of instruction for new shooters and they rent a wide range of pistols if you want to "try before you buy".

Matt also is a first class CHL instructor and last month qualified me for my CHL renewal. (Plastic arrived last week.) The thing I really like about Best Shot is they always have time for personal attention for all their customers. I've always been pleased with every visit to the range and IMHO they have a lot to offer. Matt has been involved with the Pearland Shooting Club for many many years as board member and supporter and has a wealth of experience he freely shares with people of like interests. It might be worth your while to go by there and visit with Matt to see what he can offer you in the way of guidance in your future endeavours.

For what it's worth, I don't have any connection with Matt or Best Shot Range except for being a very satisfied customer.

All the best, and I hope to see you all some Sunday at the Tactical Shoot. :fire
