Re: Dog shooter of the week
All of the following reportedly, allegedly, etc.:
In Eagle Point, Oregon (southwest, middle of nowhere), Tuesday a man walked past a pickup truck in the parking lot of an unidentified store. A female yellow Labrador mix was sitting in the bed of the truck. The man tried to pet the dog. The man said the dog bit him.
The man then entered a store and bought several items, including a CO2 BB pistol.
He returned to his vehicle, took the BB gun out of its packaging, loaded it, and shot the dog twice, one projectile going through the dog's eye.
A witness saw the shooting and called the police.
The alleged dog shooter was arrested and charged with multiple offenses.

In Albemarle County, Virginia (Charlottesville area) this week, two of the cream of America's youth were charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and hunting out of season, in connection with the fatal shooting in January of a husky dog that was in its owner's yard.

Re: Dog shooter of the week
So what I have learned is that If attacked by a dog, I better have injury to myself before I shoot it.

Re: Dog shooter of the week
Maybe there are solutions that don't involve shooting.
In any case, shooting a dog that is on its owner's property is really hard to justify.

Funny... those two are the average look for Virginia, based on what I observed during my three short visits there. Matter of fact, they would be considered a catch by most of the women from Virginia. Of course Pappy would have to check and make sure they had most of their teeth before giving final approval.seamusTX wrote:In Albemarle County, Virginia (Charlottesville area) this week, two of the cream of America's youth were charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and hunting out of season, in connection with the fatal shooting in January of a husky dog that was in its owner's yard.

Just found this thread and could post so many comments but I will limit it to just this one, I am thankful no one has started a "Cat shooter of the week" thread.

Not quite. Cat shootings do not occur that often. Those slippery little devils are hard to hit. You have to put a lot of lead on them (that's lead as in wing shooting, not lead the metal).

In Bollinger County, Missouri (middle of nowhere), last month, a sheriff's deputy resigned after shooting a chihuahua that acted aggressively toward her.
The officer had arrested a man during a domestic disturbance call. When she entered the residence, three dogs confronted her. It took three shots to dispatch the dog—but they are a small, fast-moving target. The deputy was not injured

In Los Angeles Thursday a Dreamworks employee was charged with felony animal cruelty for beating a German shepherd puppy with a hammer and shooting the animal with a pellet gun. Authorities allege that the man climbed the fence of his neighbor's home and beat the muzzled puppy "to a bloody, motionless pulp."

Re: Dog shooter of the week
In Galveston April 24 a man visiting his parents was bitten by one of a pack of stray dogs in the 2000 block of 39th Street.
Animal Control was unable to catch the dogs. The parents knew that the dogs lived in a nearby abandoned house. They reportedly set out bait for the dogs on Monday. When the dogs took the bait the 70-year-old father of the bite victim shot at them. All the dogs ran away. It is not known whether any were hit.
The man and his wife were arrested. The man was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, the weapon being a .25-caliber Colt pistol.
Now here is where the report is a little strange: The man reportedly paid a $100 fine in municipal court and was given deferred adjudication. UCW is a class A misdemeanor. I thought all state misdemeanor charges had to be heard at least in JP court or district court.
The report also does not make clear whether the man left his own property or fired across property lines or a road.

It is unlawful under city ordinances to discharge a firearm in the city, but that would be a class C misdemeanor.
This probably wouldn't be the first time someone was charged with a non-existent offense.

Re: Dog shooter of the week
I agree that a .25 is not adequate for a large dog. The shooting in this case was totally unjustified, and the guy is lucky that he missed.
The article said the weapon would be returned if the man successfully completed probation.

Re: Dog shooter of the week
State law requires a firearm to be returned after it is no longer needed as evidence, though sometimes the owner has to hire a lawyer to get a court order to return it.
In felony cases the appeals can take years, so the evidence is going to be kept indefinitely.
I remember a notorious case that was tried here where the defendant was found guilty of a felony, and the defendant's lawyer got the defendant's two handguns. The weapons probably would be worth a lot to one of those freakazoids that are willing to pay for things that were used in crimes.
