Re: Down to two....STI Ranger II or Kimber Super carry pro?
thanks guys! looks like as TDM said , "the Texas factor" is also a big deal for me. as you can see, I'm originally from New york and got outta there as soon as i could.. So as excaliber said, my next 1911 will also be an STI!
also I just noticed that i will be buying my first ever 1911 in 2011!

Why not get an STI 2011? It is a double stack 1911. Then the year you bought your gun and model number will match.

Ah, yes, the Tactical 4.15, VIP, and Total Eclipse are quite lustworthy, though pricey...CompVest wrote:Why not get an STI 2011? It is a double stack 1911. Then the year you bought your gun and model number will match.

STI. My personal policy is I don't buy guns manufactured in jurisdictions where I can't legally carry.
We're here. With gear. Get used to it.

Oh well, more Kimbers for the rest of us.
Seriously though, the STI is a fine choice. May you have many years of enjoyment with it.

Just get both, and sell the one you like less.
Re: Down to two....STI Ranger II or Kimber Super carry pro?
I purchased a Ranger II in .40 last May thru a well known "tuner". I had numerous failures to feed, and failures of the slide to lock back after the last round. I was most disappointed in that I had all these problems after paying the "tuner" to check out the pistol and do a trigger job on it. In his defense he did return the first pistol to STI and sent me a different one with night sights at no extra charge. I returned the Ranger II to STI and they did some machine work/polishing and exchanged the magazines originally shipped (don't remember the brand) with Checkmates. I have shot several "informal" IDPA matches at the Arm Room and only had 1 failure to eject and 1 failure to feed-probably caused bu "limp wristing" when I had to fire one handed with my left hand. Overall, at this time I'm pleased with my Ranger II.

Nice pistol but a totally different direction taken there. Have you shot it yet?

RIA's are nice, but they're damn heavy. They feel great in hand though, but that was just a whole different route than an STI/Kimber. They're great pistols nonetheless though.

As I understand it, they're made in the same factory in the Philippines.CompVest wrote:STI Spartans go for $698.
