Where do you hold your course?
I know some instructors hold their courses from their home, not sure how comfortable I am with that...Where do you hold yours?

There are so many options. Rent a conference room in business park, I took my course in a clinic!

Re: Where do you hold your course?
In the mostly empty classroom across from my classroom. Private school with a very gun friendly administration.
Don't laugh. I know some public schools have facilities to host classes if you ask...and you may have to press. They are public schools and public buildings. They would most likely charge a nominal cleaning or utilities fee. In the long run it may be more a hassle than it is worth unless you know the attitude of the principal or superintendent.
Our public libraries have meeting rooms. They charge $25.
Your congregation may let you hold one at the building. We put about 70 folks through several classes at our congregation.
Community centers, VFW halls, meeting rooms in fitness centers, restaurants, hotels ($$), senior citizen centers, Boys Club, YMCA, community centers, businesses with meeting rooms, get creative, it never hurts to ask.

I hold my class in my Sunday school room at my church. My paster was in my first CHL class. The church sent myself and another member to a security seminar at the First Baptist Church in Houston, and it was worth every nickel. They put on seminars about twice a year, sometimes more. You can contact the church for more info.

Churches are an excellent place to start, as they are typically low cost, and will advertise for you!
Many indoor gun ranges, and some outdoor ranges, also have classrooms they rent out for a fee.
Community centers and Recreation centers are good places too.
Retaurants with a party room will sometimes let you have the room for the cost of lunch for all your students.
Your local VFW, DAV, Boy Scouts, etc, usually have places they meet. You might look them up.
There are lots of options out there. You just have to look for them in your area.

I guess a van down by the river isn't the best option.
I have taught friends at home. I taught a group in the home of its organizer.
Also consider businesses that hold classes, like camera shops. They often have classrooms that sit idle.

Re: Where do you hold your course?
I either hold them in my office (8 or less students), or at a one of my clients gun shop with range (up to 20 or so people).
Just remember shot placement is much more important with what you shoot than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

My attorney/shooting buddy lets me use his conference room.

Re: Where do you hold your course?
I've got a renewal class scheduled next week at the Senior Volunteer Auxiliary building of the hospital where I work. I've also used a classroom at the local outdoor range.

Re: Where do you hold your course?
I have taught many CHL courses at the local Volunteer Fire Station. There are always Fire/EMS personnel that want to take the course. They even call me to set it up. I usually don't try to teach more than eight in each class. It makes the range easier. Speaking of ranges, what range do ya'll use in Houston. I find Memorial Shooting Center is kind to outside instructors.

I was once told that there is a limit of 5 students shooting per instructor at one time. Anybody else aware of this limit?howdy wrote:I have taught many CHL courses at the local Volunteer Fire Station. There are always Fire/EMS personnel that want to take the course. Re: Where do you hold your course?
This January I took a big step and have rented my own space to conduct my CHL and NRA classes. I can comfortably hold 10 students. I have to admit I have not had that many at one time yet, but growing. I am lucky that my other job allows me to get away so I can conduct renewals and 2 day CHL class in the afternoon and evening. Longer daylight sure helps.
